Upcoming "Open Winery Tour"
Now that another Bish BBQ extravaganza is in the books, it's time to start planning for the next mini run (ie one day, local loop).
I'm calling it the "Open Winery Tour" (as opposed to those organized by the green weenie, Keith). Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 10th.
FIRST LEG: We'll leave from the North Bend Outlet Stores parking lot at 9 am, proceed over Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 and exit at Cle Elum. From there we'll take 970 to 97 and follow that south to Ellensburg where we'll hop on 821 for the Yakima River Canyon run into Yakima. Then, it's a short freeway stretch on I-84 to Zillah, home of about a dozen wineries.
WINERIES: This part is new to me (never been there before) but I've been online researching the Zillah winery scene and these three look good...
Bonair Winery, Hyatt Vineyards and Wineglass Cellars. I think we'll have time to visit two or three. If any of you know the wineries firsthand, you're input is very welcome.
HOME LEG: We should be finished with lunch and the winery tour by about 2-2:30 pm. There will be two options for the home leg. Those who live Seattle/north and want to get back the quickest way can head back to Ellensburg and I-90. The more scenic and fun way will be on 410 West out of Yakima, up the Naches and American River Canyons, over Chinook Pass and down to Enumclaw where middle and northenders can head to Auburn and catch 167 for the home stretch.
For those of you who've never driven 410/Chinook you will be blown away. This is one of the top 4 or 5 Cobra roads in the state. The road surface is generally good, the twisties plentiful and the view from Chinook to Rainier is staggering.
Total loop distance on this will be right around 300 miles not counting final legs home.
Short of a "Bish league" monsoon, I'll be there, ready to go by 9 am on the 10th. I Hope many of you will join us. (and I will not be driving a black Miata this time...the blue Crosley will be back in action by then)
Cheers mates!

Walt
You can count Me & The better half to meet you at North Bend. With the weather we had last weekend it will only get better.

Just can't leave well enough alone, huh??
MoneyBags has a soccer game but Spike and I are going.
Got to be great weather if the Bishop of the North is not going to be there.

Ya'all have a great time, wish I could make this one, that run over Chinook is spectacular, but have made promises to the family. And besides, ya don't need the rain that seems to dog me.

Bony,
I've been muzzled, sent to my room, told to wait in the car, warned of "incoming" prophecies, told to make nice. But I'm sure he will be firmly in control of his keyboard.
Wish I could make this run, but get this, I have to pick my son up from Church Camp! Since I have been accused of being in league with satan that ought to raise a kilt or two.

Gee, I only had one reply to a thread shot down yesterday... how many strikes do you get??
One of the joys of owning the car is getting together with other owners. I am confident BiB
will be installing mirrors in his garage so he can enjoy his own company. Can't see him
attending one of your gatherings.
Meanwhile, have a fine weekend. I already told Jamo, and now you that you guys are going
upstairs since I am going downstairs and there isn't room for all of us!

Well, it appears the 'bishop's curse' has been lifted...the latest forcasts are for dry sunny weather this weekend. See you at 9 am, Saturday in North Bend.

Fred, do you know where in Fed Way, is it that restaurant by Costco? If I miss you there, where in North Bend are you stopping for breakfast?
Keith, other than we southenders, not sure who's going on this...we'll know at 9 sat morn. As for getting "stuck" with me...when you get in your car, look directly ahead, you will see a large round thing...it's called a "steering wheel"...use it it to go anywhere you want...as in "away from me"
Love and kisses,
Slab Guy

Thats the one. and in N Bend we plan on eating at Metzels (sp) The same place we ate at the last time we grouped up in N Bend.
When Keith gets in his car the only large round thing he see's is his belly.

You have to take it all the time so you are used to the hard hitters. In the end we all take are turns in the barrel.
