Default SOVREN Historics

Any interest in doing the car corral at the Historics this year? There's a car corral planning meeting coming up this month and they want to know if we had any issues (I do) or would like to volunteer for something. Ford powered vehicles are the featured cars this year.

Here's the fact sheet I received from SOVREN:

Fact Sheet
15th ANNUAL PACIFIC NORTHWEST HISTORICS
VINTAGE AUTO RACES

DATE: July 4-6, 2003

LOCATION: Pacific Raceways (formerly Seattle International Raceway) Highway 18, Kent, Wash.

TIME: 8:30 a.m.: gates open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.: practicing and racing

TICKET PRICES: Adults: $20 one day pass - Friday, Saturday or Sunday, $35 multiple day pass
Children age 7 - 16: $5 per day
Children 6 years and under are free.
Friday - practice, all groups;Saturday & Sunday - practice and racing

Tickets available at the gate.
Advance discount tickets available through Ticketmaster through July 3.

EVENT CELEBRITY: Parnelli Jones, 1963 Indy 500 winner and first driver to qualify above 150 mph. Parnelli raced at Indy seven times and led in five of those races. Parnelli was a dominant force in USAC and was the personification of competitive spirit. Jones won races in all four USAC divisions and won championships in two (Sprint and Stock Car Racing). He was also successful in road racing and won the 1970 Trans-Am championship driving a Ford Mustang. Parnelli applied his competitive spirit competing in off-road racing and won the grueling and treacherous Baja 500 five times and the Baja 1,000 three times. He is an honored member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame.

PACE CAR DRIVER: Dominic Dobson, competed in seven consecutive Indianapolis 500 Races.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:The Pacific Northwest Historics features many of the world’s rarest and most beautiful pre-1970 race cars. This year, more than 250 vintage race cars are expected to enter. Favorites include Ferraris, Lotuses, Cobras, Corvettes, Porsches, Austin Healeys and some less recognizable names like Elva, Ginetta, and McLaren. Most are in mint condition through extensive restoration and many attain speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour. Some of the cars are valued at over $1 million and many have impressive racing histories. Competitors come from all over the West Coast and Canada. The wheel to wheel competition on the challenging 2 ¼-mile road course includes nine turns, 200-300 foot elevation drop and a near ¾-mile straightaway.
The paddock area is open to all spectators.

FORD FEATURE: To highlight the races and focus on the 100th Anniversary of Ford Racing, more than 20 highly significant historic racing Fords will be featured. Leading the group of exciting cars to be raced are the Trans Am Ford Mustangs originally driven by Parnelli Jones and George Follmer.

CAR CORRAL: An additional 250 vintage and collector cars from local car clubs will be on display in the car corral.

PRESENTERS: Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts (SOVREN)
SOVREN Guild of Children’s Hospital

CONFIRMED Title Sponsor, Phil Smart Mercedes-Benz, Others TBD.
SPONSORS:

BENEFICIARY: All proceeds benefit uncompensated care at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle. Over the last 12 years, almost $3 million dollars has been raised at the races. Our goal for 2003 is $400,000.

Last years PARADE LAP was a JOKE.. I would be very interested for this year but they have hire someone that count higher than 1.
Tell them to keep the Beamers at the tail end because they sure as hell don't now how to count. My new " Y " block with the dual holley high domes could keep pace with last years group.

I will convey your opinion verbatim as it so closely mirrors my own.

"count higher than 1"...I love it!

I am hoping to come up again. I had a great time last year. Maybe we can get a parade arranged from Portland. I also enjoyed our breakfast and parade to the track last year.

The parade lap certainly was lame (understatement), but the vintage racing and automotive "eye-candy" is always worthwhile. I'd like to see the group go it again.

What are you trying to say. The latest on new "Y" block is I should have it home on the 29th. We are waiting on custom built oil lines for the valve covers. Them ol Y blocks have always liked a little more oil on the top side to keep the rocker shaft quiet. Still working on the air cleaner to get enough space to be able to close the hood. I will post a photo of the blue engine once I get it home. Are you wet yet??? The Dyno #s should come in around 200HP.
