Hi,
The coast run , then over to Walt's sounds great.
Need to know dates to plan for time off.
Also anybody else have dates of other events?

The Whistler trip seemed to go over pretty well, but most said they would have like to have two nights there. So Perry a question: What are the Canadian holidays in mid summer so we don't plan that trip on such a busy weekend?
I will make the arangements again once I know the answer to the above question.

Bish:
June is clear for stat holidays, July 1st is our Canada Day and is taken on which ever day of the week it falls on, August has BC day and it is the first monday of the month and September has labor day, same up here for down your way. Whistler would be great as a two nighter.

Perry et al...
If the group consensus points to an Oregon coast/Sunriver loop, I'll be glad to coordinate the eastern Oregon phase... accomodations, eateries, routes etc.

Guess its time to jump in even if I was told not to. Just got off the trip maker and this is what I came up with and will expect the flak to follow.
Day 1 Federal Way to Lincoln City 273 miles Monday
Day 2 Lincoln City to Gold Beach 201 miles Tuesday
Day 3 Rogue River Boat Trip Wednesday
Day 4 Gold Beach to The Redwoods and back to Gold Beach 195 miles Thursday
Day 5 Gold Beach to Bend 372 miles Friday
Day 6 Bend to Bend Walts choice. Saturday
Day 7 Bend to Federal Way 305 miles Sunday
We could leave a day earlier and split the Gold Beach to Bend in half but we really need to think about being in Bend on Friday night.
Time to throw the flak

Fred,
Sounds great. Thanks for jumping in there and setting up a plan for next years trip. We will keep the last two weeks of July open for the Cobra trip so whenever the date is decided, we will not have any conflicts. Looking forward to another great Cobra outing and hope more people will be able to join us on next years trip.

If a five or six day rather than a seven day trip works better for most folks (this is why we couldn't make it on the Montana run last summer), let me offer this possibility...
Head to Bend on day three after 2 nights on the Oregon coast. First night in Cannon Beach, second night in Florence. Next day through Eugene via Hwy 126 then 242 over McKenzie Pass (spectacular scenery) through Sisters and into Bend. One or two days in Bend before a road day home. Bend has great shopping and recreation for those so inclined and I know some wonderful loop routes nearby for those who want to drive rather than shop or play.
Just a thought... let me know what you think.
BTW: CSX 1999 is due in this Sunday. I'm about to find out if I have a viable project car or a steaming pile of worthless sheet (metal). Pray for me!

Walt
It looks as if this topic is getting looked at alot but very few responses. The week long trip may be to long for some so we may have to split the group up and just plan to meet in Bend at the same time. So for anyone that wants to make a week lets plan on leaveing Federal way on the 19th of July and we will be in Bend on the 23. for the other group the can plan as needed to be in Bend on the 23. Now that dates are set we need to find out who is going on the 19 so I can start finding rooms. Can you find rooms in Bend for us??

Fred,
good compromise plan! I'll get lodging info in Bend for the 23rd and 24th. Bend hosts more summer community events than any other place I know of so there might be a craft fair or outdoor concert going on, especially on a Friday/Saturday. I'll check. We'll host a get together at our place. That should make the neighbors wonder who the hell they let move in next door.
CSX 1999 Arrived! It's definitely a project but not an irredeemable rust bucket. It should be ready for action by the Spring.

Fred, we are excited about the trip and look forward to doing the week long route. I still can't believe that Kim bought off on it!

Fred,
Question, why not leave on Sunday the 18th? Most are not working on Sunday and this could pick up day in the week.
I am game for anything! Count me in for this. One thing that might be a real fun time would be a stop at the McMinnville Air Museum. This would depend on your route over to the coast, but is on the way to Lincoln City from Portland.
Unfortunately not many of the Portland area owners visit this forum, but I think there might be a few more who would like to join in once the word gets out.

Whistler?
We will make the Bend trip one way or the other and if that run goes on 7/18 how about 8/13,14 & 15 for the Whislter trip? The 13th is a Friday (yeah I know, Friday the 13th so it will probably rain) and would give us 2 nights in Whistler. Give me some feed back about those dates and I will start putting it together.

Leaving on Sunday would be fine in my book, its just getting other players to agree. The route that I am looking at is to hook up on Hiway 101 and stay on it until we leave for Bend. The Oregon group could always meet up with us at Lincoln City. To see and do every thing we need three days in Gold Beach and we need to be in Bend on Friday night. Leaving Sunday we could always make the Thur/Fri drive shorter. The question is do we want 6 or 7 nights in a Motel ??????. The more inputs we have the easier it will be to plan this.
