Default 427 for sale,opinions

I had been chasing this motor for 3 months, finally tonite I found it,,it had grown to a full blown hol moody buy the time i found it,,BUT,,
What can I afford to offer,,?
It's a C4AE block,center oil,,pop in freeze plugs,the guy is a coke head,,lost it all it looks like,priced the engine at 2500.00,,
has one sleeve, looks like 14.1 pistons, cant tell about the crank, but looks like "H20" stamp, and c5ae something20/20,not sure about rods,or bore size,,but i could measure before i buy,,it is in an old garage, back of a truck,,no lights so inspection is tough, heads are c2se{i think} with lots of port work and huge sodium valves,,406 I guess, not a lot of info, but it was in a pull truck and spun a rod bearing,,
I offered 500,,,and said i would think about it,,I am thinking there isnt much there,,what about you guys ?
also has an old truck,,78 or so with a 68 429pi,alum intake and 4bbl,says it runs like hell and I can drive it home for 1k,,I may make an offer on both,,
input please,,Tk

Tk,

Did you see cross bolts? I am not aware of a 427 without screw in freeze plugs.sounds like a bit of a "hodge podge" you probably dont want the pistons or the valves, the crank is already 20/20 and needs to turned again, the block is sleeved....I dont know ,tk be careful..

I thought only the 427 S.O. had the screw in freeze plugs?

Hi Guys,,
I was hasty in my post ,I do think some of the very early motors had regular freeze plugs,as well as a few non cross bolt motors, this does have cross bolts, but no screw in plugs,I was wary it wasnt a 427 as well, all I had to use was a tape measure, but the bore is roughly 4.25,,so I would think it has to be,this is a local motor that I have heard stories about for years, the guy who had it maybe 15 yrs ago was an old arca racer,
As you said Karl ,I for sure dont need the pistons or heads most likely, the sleeve dosent bother me so much since it looks liek it was a long time ago,I couldnt see any welds or breaks anywhere, the crank is a toss up,and for the cost of building up and grinding I can but a new scat crank ,unless maybe a cleanup grind would do it.the rods are studded steel rods, but not able to see the numbers.
My plan is to gather more info on what the block may be,and if it would have any collector value among restorers,{galaxie, etc},take my mic and more lighting to ck it out and make the guy a better educated offer..
I really appreciate any help I can get on this,I need to move fairly fast since the word is out on the motor now,I am not sure my 500 offer wasnt a fair one though,,,thanks,Tk

C4AE block is a '64 top oiler 427 or a '64 390 if it's C4AE-D.

C4AE head would indicate '64 427 High Riser.
