How does one register/title a "kit car" in WA State?
O.K. - I'm new
What does it take to make titling/registering/licensing a Superformance car in the State of Washington?

I had a Superformance 427, bought new from Dynamic. Went to the license bureau and there was no hassle had all my paperwork from SPF and the engine builder/installer. Registered as a 2XXX , paid the sales and misc. license fees(OUCH!), walked out the door with plates and registration.
No inspection was required, no smog checks or anything. I live in Kitsap county.
My NAF FIA was similar, registered as a NAF Cobra replica. Just transfered title from Illinois, though I did need to get a safety inspection, again no hassle.
Welcome--those SPF coupes are awesome, I was seriously thinking of buying one last year when I sold my roadster, but after doing the number crunch I couldn't justify close to 90K invested by the time I figured in the car cost, a quality engine/transmission build, insurance, taxes and licensing fees.
One hint if you've been checking them out at Park Place, you probably might get a better deal from Dynamic in Reno--PP is very "proud" of their cars and they don't seem to want to deal much and they were way overpriced for the exact SPF compared to Dynamic when I bought mine a few years ago fwiw

King county requires a state patrol inspection not so much for safety but to validate that the car isn't stolen or made from stolen parts. You'll need to show a certificate of origin or receipts for the major components. They'll validate the VIN and send you off with the necessary paperwork to title the car. Fairly straight forward...

I took the certificate of origin and receipt for my FFR kit down to the licensing place and paid the sales tax/license fee and walked out with the plates. It was that easy, no inspection required. (I have heard a rumor that they are no longer inspecting the cars due to cutbacks in budget but that was just a rumor) Anyways, it was that easy. This was in Kent, WA one year ago.

I had the same experience as Wayne. Took me 10minutes. Handed them the Certificate of Origin, paid any sale tax/license fee and walked out with plates. No inspection or anything.

I just walked in and they gave me my tags after I paid them a lot of cash.
The only bad thing is I am a 1991 Classic Roadster so I have to deal with emission testing

Why is yours a 1991? Any idea what a Superformance Coupe would be classified as? I do not want to deal with emmissions.

2004--emissions may depend upon year of engine installed--think that would depend upon your engine choice for the coupe. I know WA state will tax upon the the vechicle year of Manufacture, dealing with emissions may be county compliant requirement

mine was completed by Classic Roadsters in 1991 so there for it is a 1991 Classic Roadster 2 door coupe.
In Cali where CR was before Don bought them they were given a SB100 waiver so it wouldnt have to go thru emissions. But when I brought it here to WA they told me tough luck 91 title means 91 emissions standards. But as ZDerf posted in one of his threads there are ways around them. If you need the information how I can get it to you.

I went to Alpine licensing in Factoria to register the 40 and they promptly told me I require a state patrol inspection. I'm not sure if this is a King County issue but it seams odd.
Assuming DOL treats your coupe as a kit vehicle the model year is designated by the year it was actually assembled. More info here...
