Anybody watch Barrett-Jackson last night?
You had to look really fast, but my ex went on the block at 8:30 last night (during a freakin' commercial) and sold for...are you ready? I don't think you are...
$55000
Must be something in the water down there that neutralizes brain cells.

A commercial....I thought I just fell asleep and missed it.
I can just see it next year, BJ announces over 500 Cobra replicas for sale, requiring a whole new class (and tent). BTW, mine will be in line. Guess I better start waxing tomorrow.

The CS sticker on the driver's side windscreen was easily worth another $5K in the bidding. That's my hot tip for the day...thank me later.

Dean, Funny story about the CS sticker on the window...the day I got rid of the car, on the way to deliver it, driving through the Snohomish flats, a horse trailer in front of me kicked up a rock and cracked the windshield. Guess where.
Perry, she was right next to me and as blown away as I was about the sale.

Feeding Frenzy
Think I recall seeing a nicely restored Amphicar that sold for around $47k yesterday evening...
So, all things in perspective, if one of these goes for that amount of money, $55k seems almost low...

Actually, with the commision...
1967 AMPHICAR 770 CONVERTIBLE $93500.00
It's like Barrett-Jackson has the power to suspend reality.

Old Adage Just Might Apply...
A car is ultimately worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it...
Flip side of this coin though might easily be that a "fool and his/her money are soon parted"...

The amphicar last year sold, I think for $125K, seems like the seller this year had a much better car. Due to the popularity of the "replica, continuations whatever" it illustrates what presentation and opportunity can produce. So much for the flat prices discussed on the cobra market!

Most of that auction is all about the "BJ inflation nation watch me flaunt my bucks on TV" BS. All those cars TELEVISED pay an "excise" fee to the auction house for being televised. There are some huge egos with that auction house and more than once I have seen said egos get in the way smart biz, especially C.Jacksons sunglass wearing sidekick "Hollywood Steve". He never wore those shades before the cameras showed up, now he wears them at night. I will stop there out of professional courtesy.
Its all hype and BS fellas...all hype and BS,... but the man does make it work and has built it into a very successful business.
Its the American way and more power to him.

So, did you see the Ford Mustang with the rumble seat? They didn't show that auction, but reported that it went for something like 30K. Seems kinda low for such a rare (factory/Karkraft) car... and it looked nicely restored, from what they showed of it.

BJ does influence the market on the high end, like flea-bay influences the market on the low end.
...somewhere between these two extremes of the Twilight Zone the 'truth is out there'.

pmfranke,
Those are 3-piece Compomotive HB500 rims. Unfortunately, they don't make 'em anymore.

If $55K was the auction price, you still have to add the 8% seller commission which makes the sale price almost $60K
