Maybe I just dreaming all this, but it seems last year the early Camaros/Vettes/Chevelles did better than the ones I've seen cross the block so far????? anybody else notice this or is it I'm dreaming?????
Last years Amphicar brought big bucks, this years car brought good money, but not the big bucks like last year, bet the seller was expecting at least last years price if not more.........
All it takes is the right 2 or 3 guys with the right money wanting the same car to run the price out of sight!!!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of the "street rod" type cars are selling for less than the cost to build them.....good deals for folks looking for that kinda car....While I think BJ is way too much hype and booze and rich folks, there are still some good buys from what I saw.........it's much like the stock market, purely speculation on what will be the hot ticket this year and the coming years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with David,
There were some excellent deals to be had the last two nights on a wide assortment of cars.

The Amphicar Club was disbanded several years ago because the club president FELL OUT OF HIS AMPHICAR AND DROWN!!!!! TRUE!!!
So that makes them worth more...plus the fact that a steel car in water has the half-life of Unobtainiun 237.....

I noticed that some nice Chevelles and GTO's were had for less than the previous year. Maybe the first two days had the big spenders waiting for the "good stuff" to show up on the weekend? There did seem to be some bargains to be had on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At the end of the auction it was announced that they are ahead of last years numbers through Wednesday by just over $1M. I agree that there were some "bargins" in the sale. I planned on going this year but at the last minute (as usual) work interfered, maybe next year.

I couldn't believe the prices a couple of the VW's sold for...a car sold new for under 2K...a car to get you from point A to point B...now selling for 35K +.
Makes one wonder

I could see 55K for a nicely built Unique, but I don't know the details of this one. I think most of the people that build their cars end up with this much money in them.

"Nicely built" would not include a small block 302, in my opinion. Few of us get back what we invest in our cars, and thats OK. The ONLY way you can get exactly what you want is to build it or have it built to your specs. There is a price for that personal satisfaction that comes from 'doing it your way', I'm willing to pay that.
I would be thrilled to get $55K for my ERA with a side oiler! Aint gonna happen (unless,,, BJ next year?).

I think someone should load them both up in that Amphicar, drive it out into a real deep part of the lake and sink it.

Lot 753
Lot 753 was a strange car! A '63 Impala with the roof from a '60 Plymouth
Fury hardtop grafted onto it. Sold in the $80K range. The roof swap appeared
to be nicely done, but the roof GM originally put on those cars looked fine as
it was.

Be my guest, but my mechanic is not cheap. High maintenance!
Those Ampicars make great anchors. Some of the cars last night were relatively cheap.

Those auctioneers should wear coats with fur on the collar and big wide brimmed pink or red hats with a feather in them. That's the official dress for Arizona pimps. And while you're at it go on to Vegas and break your new years resolution about not drinking , gambling or paying women for sex.
I saw the Texas Cobra Club member on there last night. You know who I'm talking about.

Do you think that this 55K dollar Unique, as well as all the other Cobra replica's, and the excitment around this years center piece auction with good OLD Caroline there to help, will increase the interest even further in our little club here?
Seems like some of the other muscle cars are starting to fizzle out a little and BJ sales tend to give us a compass as to where the market is headed. Hopefully we can open our arms to the possible multitudes that may end up peaking their heads in here...
James

How about the guy that bought a Porsche last year (I think it was a 50 something model) for 135K and ran it thru this year and got a whopping 90K for it??????????????? bet he's not a happy camper this morning.......
Seems the restored to original specs cars are doing better than the resto-mods.............
How about the celebs there last nite, Tony Stewart, Jimmy Spencer, Sylvester Stallone, and one of them wrestling guys!!!!!!!!!!! Stewart bid on a car or two.............
SSSSSSSSSSSSS;I looked for him, but did not see him, must have been when I was channel surfing.............

I recall an interesting comment from the Speed TV guy..He thought that the growing number of people "who never had a muscle car and wanted to own and drive one", were becoming less concerned about originality (because of the high prices) but were willing to pay good price for "cool looking" cars. He said this would be good news for the replica industry.

When you factor in his buyer's fee last year and seller's fee this year, he lost $63K in one year. I suppose that wouldn't bother alot of people but that would surely leave me feeling like crap.

Has there ever been a car that didn't receive a single bid? I saw a 70 Camaro Coupe (Z28 Clone) start at 20K and go down to 19 last night...
