6th Annual Benefit Motorcycle Ride

Below is a copy of an e-mail I received concerning the revised route/destination of the Annual Benefit M/C Ride. As I mentioned before, this is a great bunch of folks to ride with and they would love to have a few Cobras join in the fun.

For those of you with newly completed vehicles, this would be a good "sea trial".

"The new destination for this year is Hood River, Oregon. The route will take us through Elbe, Morton, Randle, the east side of Mt. St. Helens, Carson, the Washington side of the Columbia River, and then crossing over to Hood River. There is no freeway riding on this route.

The date of the ride is still July 12th and 13th. The start time has changed to 9:00 A.M. (meaning departure time). The gathering point for check in is still the Albertsons parking lot at 160th and Meridian.

The hotel we selected this year for those who would like to stay with the group is the Best Western Hood River Inn. It is located on the Columbia River. Reservations can be made by calling the Hood River Inn at 1-800-828-7873. Please tell them that you are with the benefit motorcycle group from Pierce County as they did give us a group rate. Reservations can be made for 1 or 2 nights.

We are also going to have a buffet which will be at the hotel along with a silent auction. If you still plan on going could you please send me, Detective Lloyd Bird, or Deputy Bruce Johnston (377-3177) an RSVP so we have a general idea of what to plan for. Each year the ride has grown and last years was almost twice as large as the previous year. With any luck that trend will continue to the benefit of the Tacoma/Pierce County Chaplaincy.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at (253)405-4851.

Hope to see you in July.
Sgt. Greg Stonack"

Steve, Count me in.

I just pulled the trigger and booked a room. Kim and I will be making the run this year. Depending on the price of gas I may actually ride instead of driving the Cobra. Let's see 10mpg vs. 50mpg... It does make me think a little. My gas fund will be empty after trailering to Reno this May for the WSCB!

Jake,

It's the people not their mode of transportation. (If it's raining we will be in the BMW):o

Debbie and I plan on attending, booked the room yesterday. The hotel employee I spoke to said they had 40+ rooms booked for the group.
Jake and Steve I'm surprised to hear you both waffling on driving the Cobra's. This is our opportunity to show the bike crowd what real cruising is by driving the Cobra's.
Should be a good time, hopefully there will be more Cobras signing on for this cruise for a good cause.

Jake 03-20-2008 07:59 PM

Scott, I will take it under advisement. Jason and Kristen are also going on the trip. I also would like to encourage everyone to make reservations early, as the rooms are starting to go quick.

Scott,

Only rainy weather will discourage us taking the Cobra. It has been in the garage most of the winter getting upgrades. The power steering has been installed, a new Holley Double Pumper Carb will go on this weekend and perhaps new war paint applied for the trip.

jlalibe 03-24-2008 12:13 PM

As Jake mentioned, Kristen and I will be there. If it rains, we will be in the Cobra. Book your rooms soon. I am told there are a couple of other lodging options if the Best Western books out. See ya there!

Jake 07-07-2008 05:22 AM

Scott,

Kim and I will be making the run this weekend and it does look like great Cobra weather. Jim are you still in? If you are....I think we will have at least 5 Cobras this year. Any other takers?
PS. My Cobra is still down. I will be in a sponsored SPF...I am starting to like this sponsorship stuff. First team Hamilton came through with the tires for the WSCB and now team Kerzie comes through with a nice shiny red Cobra. I live a blessed life!

Do we want to meet at a staging location and show up as a group or trickle in at the departure area (160th & Meridian)?

Jake 07-07-2008 03:53 PM

Steve, unless someone has strong feelings on the subject, it would probably be more efficient to just meet at the Albertson's. Everyone will be coming in from different directions. Any word on if Jim will be coming Steve?

Jake

Steve Bisson 07-07-2008 05:25 PM

Jim & Nita will be joining us.

race-it 07-08-2008 08:15 AM

Jake, Glad to hear you will have a COBRA. Me and Nita will be making the run. If a Cobra is a sign of a blessed life, Just wait till the good Lord sets you in a VIPER!

How late can you make a decision on this.

It's not unusual for me to find out on Friday afternoon that I have to work over the weekend, so I really cannot commit until Friday.

Jake 07-09-2008 05:12 AM

Silverback, I would give Greg Stonack (Number at beginning of this thread)a call and ask if that would be an issue. The next step would be finding a room. I don't know if the hotel is sold out. Worst case scnario you might have to stay at a different hotel.

Silverback, I guess there was an article in the Tribune about the ride/drive and it says just show up by 9am and you are in. Rooms are on your own. So you are golden. Love to seeya.

Jake and crew. Just thinking about this run. The back roads may not provide the emergency repair items we may need if anyone should break down. I thought that if we knew what tools everyone had perhaps we could bring a broader selection. I will check what I will bring. It just would not be good not to help those bikers out!!!!

*Floor Jack
*Wrench Set Metric/American
Socket
Wheel Ramps
Electrical Tools
*Tow Strap
Flairs

I will have my truck and trailer ready if needed.

Just a thought that might bring some piece of mind. Of course, My car will never break down!! WHOOPS!!

I will break down perhaps!!!

Jake 07-09-2008 08:48 PM

Jim, I think that there will be a crash vehicle with tools on the trip. I will bring the usual 2 cans of fix a flat, scissor jack, tool kit, and tire plugs. If that doesn't cover it...There is always a flat bed tow truck.

I'm bringing AAA and a cell phone.**)
