Default Washington Registration

You will find that Washington Law states

"(6) For a manufactured new vehicle kit and a manufactured body kit, the model year of the vehicle is the year reflected on the manufacturer's certificate of origin for that vehicle. If this is not available, the Washington state patrol shall assign a model year at the time of inspection."

Check at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.16.680

I'm looking at a new Superformance and am about to resign myself to a 2007 title.

Any other suggestions will be helpful.

Now I know why the guy I bought my roller from in Washington didn't have it titled or registered. He bought the pieces from the builder in Vancouver, Canada and had it assembled in Washington but neglected to get the paperwork done.

I really didn't have a problem titling/registering it in New Mexico as a 66 Cobra.

Good luck with the WSP.

I brought my car into Washington from Nevada in 2000. It was registered to me in Navada and said 65 Cobra replica. They (WASP) changed it to KitV. The car had the VIN from Everett Morrision and it showed 1984 as date of manufacture so they dated it as that. I only have to go through emmissions this one last time this summer. Tacoma 112th DMV

An example of unique state laws when registering kit/replica cars. I bought a pre-owned Cobra that was legally registered and titled, not using a title company, in Wisconsin as a 1966.

At the safety inspection, CT DMV did not accept the out of state registration/title documentation, after determining the Cobra was a kit car, and I had to register as a Composite, subject to all the regulations for these types of vehicles. The year first registered in CT then becomes the model year. There was no added value in this case in having a 1966 registration.

In 2007, with a great deal of hobbyist and business participation , the CT DMV regulations were modified to exempt CT Composites from emission testing.

Just titled my new SPF2743 through the dealer. Info from Washington registration

Mod-Yr 2008
Make KITV
Ser/Body 65COBRA
VIN SPO2743

COMMENT: - DISPLAY ON BACK LICENSE PLATE ONLY - FRONT PLATE IS STILL REQUIRED

Not much chance to register it as a 1965

I've tried 6 different licensing offices for a 1960's registration. Either no go or they require a VIN inspection first. By the way did you have to get a VIN inspection? Don't know why they won't accept the Superformance chassis #P2226 as a VIN?

I heard that the Cops would prefer that the rgistration identify the car as what it looks like. They want to know what kind of car they are supposed to be looking for. I never heard where or why the "KitV " thing came from or about. Where is the gain from this law change? Of coarse there will be a monitary charge for the registration change when the state wakes up.
