Thumbs up Seattle to SOCAL Rally (Aug 1st-10th, 2009)

Seattle to Socal Rally is now on the calander

Fred H. and Jason L. and I got together today and scratched out a game plan for an epic Cobra Rally for Aug. 1 through the 10th , 2009. This will be the longest of any prior trips, however it is sure to be the best! We want to top the trip to Banff and the prior trip to Redwoods. In order to make it all the way to Santa Barbra and back, in less then two weeks, we decided to take the coast on the way down and have two freeway days to get back home. We would like to have everyone who is considering going please post your interest. We will have a final commit day of May 1st, 2009. Jason, Fred, and I will be planning the route and picking motels which we will block out rooms. It will be the responsibility of those wishing to go to call and make room reservations. All of the motel info will come in future posts. We will try to keep the prices in the middle of the road. One of the resons I am posting this so early is so people can talk about it and start saving some cash...This will not be a cheap trip. However, It could be a once in a lifetime chance to to cruise Hwy 101 and Hwy 1 all the way to southern California with a group of Cobras and great people (If I do say so myself.)

The schedule is the following:

Day 1 Tacoma area to Florence Or.
Day 2 Florence to Eureka Ca.
Day 3 Eureka to San Francisco
Day 4 San Francisco -Day trip to the wine country
Day 5 San Francisco -Downtown trip
Day 6 San Francisco to Salinas (Stops in Monteray & Carmel)
Day 7 Salinas to Santa Barbra
Day 8 Santa Barbra - Day trip ?
Day 9 Santa Barbra to Redding Ca.
Day 10 Redding Ca. to Tacoma

Total miles are expected to be just shy of 3,000 (Sorry waxers)

I can honestly say that doing an extended Cobra vacation is one of the best ways to travel and meet peple that I have found. We are sure to make many memories! Jason has already started working on a commerative gumball for the side of the Cobras that will be worn by all Cobras on the Rally.

You have lot's of time to figure out details but I would make a few suggestions.

Can San Francisco totally as it is not a Cobra friendly city I would recommend going from Eureka to either Sonoma or the Napa area. Spend the next day taking in the Napa Valley and the wine country with wine tasting etc. THen head to Carmel but I would delay your trip about a week or ten days since the Monterey Historica races and Concourse all happen around the third week in August and you DON"T want to miss any of that stuff. You really need a couple of days here in Carmel and then do Santa Barbra if you must...Just an idea or two

McDoo, we will hit the Historics another year. As for your other suggestions we will take a look at some more options. Thanks for the tips and maybe we can meet up in August.

Thumbs up

Jake,

I agree with McDoo. Eileen and I used to go to San Francisco for our birthdays and it is not a city I would pick for the Cobras. On the other hand, we drove the BMW down to the Napa Valley & wine country and that area begs for Cobras; the wineries, scenery, wine and food are fantastic. (bring lots of $$)

We have also been in the Carmel area and that is just icing on the cake.

Oh yea......count us in.

Steve,

Jason is looking into rooms for the San Francisco leg of the trip. I don't see any issues with moving the motel around a bit to get away from the city. I will pass on the concearn. Glad to see that Eileen and yourself are up for another trip. Can I use your gas card?

Hi Jake,
Sound like a great trip. I'll talk with Gail and see if she is up for that many miles.

Hope to find a car by then and meet you in Santa Barbara. If there is a Coldwell Banker Realtor amoung you, check the rate discounts available in Montecito.

The trip is still a go and the dates are good. Jason, Fred and I will have another planning session when Fred comes up in a few weeks. I really don't have much more info on the run at this point. Please block the dates out if you are planning to go.

Wow, what a great trip, we are probably just not up to the mileage in these "original" seats we have. OH, to do Montery in a Cobra, still thinking.

Jake,
Looks like I wont be able to go. Last time I did go down 101 from Oregon to SB we found north of SF and just South of SF they would only book us for two nights no one night rooms. I thought that was BS but thats what we found on the coast. You guys have a great time.

Jake,

I'd love to go but it's a little too much $$ for me and as much as I like to drive my car, 40 hours in 10 days is a little much, even for me.
I know, I know, I'm being a wimp.

Jake and I had our talk today and it looks as if we may have to put this trip off for the time being. We want to have a trip but tone it back a bit. One of the thoughts was to add on to the Sun Run or add on to the one Mark & Rita is talking about. As you know any time is good for me and I've got all the time in the world, so if we have certain date that is the best and if any one has any ideas NOW is the time to bring them up so we can get something planned.

Fred,

How about both? A couple of 3 to 4 day trips would be ideal with a few weeks break in between trips. I would suggest that at the start of each day someone is assigned the task of following Jim (race-it) to remind him to cancel his turn signals.

The person that needs to follow Jim would be Steve T.
