The Missouri law looks good. Not sure we could get that thru in WA though. If you read WA statutes apparently in 1998 half the SEMA bill was adopted (street rods can be registered under collector cars with no emissions testing). Don't know why kit cars were left out. My legislator, Deb Wallace (Vancouver) is willing to introduce kit car legislation for us. Due to elections that will probably be next year. What would you guys like to see in a bill? Remember it may face stiff opposition if we ask for too much. It would help if we could get statewide support.

If you like, I can set up dyno tunes for us in the spring. I want to get new tires and a tune before the CA trip in August. After the tune we can visit a local sports bar that has good food and very cold beer. I'll even buy.  |

I was looking at the SEMA page a while back and they have all kinds of legislation they have passed and are working on passing. Washington is not on the list at this point from what I could see. Lots of good information. Heck, I would even take the California SB100 rule at this point. It is better then what we have.

Steve,
I to would like to be as clean as possible and have taken steps to try and clean up the ole 460 as best as I can. The first time I had her dyno tuned made a big difference and it would almost pass at cruise at this point, but at idle, I bet a '08 Honda Accord would run quite nicely off whats comin out the pipe.

I'm of the same mindset. I would like the cleanest emissions at the highest power curve. My idle is the same as yours; sooty exhaust pipes that brings tears to my eyes.

The California SB-100 bill is good except it also uses the 500 allotted numbers for SB-1578 which lets a car bought out of state be registered under it. Those 500 numbers are not very many and are normally gone by noon on the 2nd of January. I still like the Missouri law the best.
And while on the subject have any of you heard anything about the so called Green Rod add on whatever it is that SEMA and the Calif. CARB are supposed to be working on? I can't find any mention of it on either site. According to our Attorney General it is supposed to be an add on device that will make crate motors meet todays emissions. If that is a fact and it works it would be great for all states. I would like to hear more about this if there is any place to find out.

Ron,
Do you mean Green Rod as in environmentally friendly Hot/Street Rod or an aftermarket tube that is green in color that is attached to an engine? Either way I can't find any information related to emissions.

I guess I am screwed next year when I have to get tested. EFI with 4 into 4 headers, no cats. O2 sensors however.

Based on another post regarding SB100 issues in California, it's my understanding that the "green rod" strategy involves installing an aftermarket emmisions device that would reduce emissions to meet state standards.

Steve,
I meant what Doug posted as I read that in the post by Morgenster I think it was and was not able to find anything about it on the SEMA site or any other search I tried. I would like to know what kind of after market emission devise they are talking about that would make the engines meet today's emission standards. How would it work, what does it consist of, and what would the price be?

Another solution is to just move out of the congested, tree-hugging, EPA loving, Liberal leaning, rainy NW 
Naw never mind ... we have enough transplants here already. 
(ps. sort of kidding about the Puget Sound region)

Does anyone know if Oregon has any big changes coming to their kit car registration process? I was waiting until next year to register but I could get it ready this year if I had to.

You might go to the Oregon Govt. web site and do a search on any vehicle related bills that are new or in the process of being voted on. I do that on the Calif. site quite often to see what they are going to try next.

Emissions Testing - No problem easy to handle!!
Steve,
Call Dept of Licensing Emmissions Hotline in Bellevue and ask for the "kit car specialist". Yes they have one. The phone number is in the paper work they send at renewal time. They can take of your situation. I went through it. It took about 5 minutes on the phone to handle it. Most of the time was spent BS-ing with the guy. No repair expenses; no hassle. The biggest hassle is you have to call every time you renew.
If you can't find the number let me know and I will check back through my notes when I am in the office.
