Jake, Fred,
I had plan on leaving Monday for Montana, but well stay in town tell Steve service is over. My Cobra well be there rain or shine also. Steve hated to drive in the rain and we got real wet coming back on 410 that day, I told him if we got to the other side {East: we would not get wet. I was wrong. The other thing Steve like besides a Beer was ice cream and we had few those along the way. We new where all the good ice cream joints where. I am thinking about having Keith,Dave,Steve names airbrush on the side of my Cobra as a tribute to our fallen friends.

This really sucks.

I will miss Steve. It was always a pleasure to be around him. I feel luck that he was with us on the run this year.

Gloria and I hope Eileen is doing OK considering the circumstances. Please give her our best when you see her.

We said our goodbyes in the Sun Mountain Lodge parking lot last Sunday with a final wave where the road hit the Highway 20 junction. We thought of what a great time we had had with our Cobra friends throughout the weekend and spoke of Steve and Eileen and how happy they were to be off on another day's adventure together as they headed back home via the incredibly scenic North Cascades Hwy. Then we were happy to receive an email from Steve letting us know he was "in" for next year's run.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Eileen in this time of sorrow. Angels will accompany you through these days. We have lost a very special friend and we know it. Steve's smiling face and his stories brightened the times we had together.

Best wishes,
gloria McBain

Dang, this is sad news. Followed Steve through Wayne's build, so to speak. Before I bought my kit, Wayne and Carman were wrenching on Wayne's at his house, and Wayne was kind enough to invite me over.

So, when Wayne sold it to Steve, I was happy to learn it had gone to a good home. And, I had a connection to Steve although he never knew it.

Condolences, thoughts, and prayers out to his family.

It has been so wonderful to read all of these posts about my Uncle Steve. He was a great man and our family will miss him.

It wasn't in a Cobra, but perhaps my favorite car ride of all time was between Port Angeles and a campground 45 minutes away. This was about 15 years ago. I was in the back seat while Steve drove and Eileen sat shotgun. They blasted "Born to be Wild" and Uncle Steve was wearing his heavy shoes that day.

I will miss Steve. He was a great addition to our family. I am glad that so many of you Cobra friends will be driving with him on Thursday. I thank you for myself and for my family.

Regards, and make good turns,

-Jon Grover

We met Steve last week-end on the run to the sun. We enjoyed the cruise and a nice dinner with him and Eileen. He seemed like a great guy to get to know, I really enjoyed his stories and sense of humour. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Jeff and Diana.

Jim,
Old 98 must be at the funeral. If the check clears by then I will drive it. If it hasn't by then please drive it. Either way it needs to be there....

I was just going through some old pics for Eileen and revisited several old photoshows that Steve and Eileen were in. If you have a few extra minutes it is fun to take a trip down memory lane. Just click on the following link:

This is Eileen. I just had a chance to read through all of your emails and wish to thank you for your kind words. Steve lived for those days when he could take the cobra out and get up on the forum. He had to show me the ones with he and Jim bantering back and forth. I appreciate all the prayers and hugs over the past couple of weeks and your presence at Steve's funeral. I know our families were duly impressed with your fondness for Steve and all of the cobras. I've dusted off the cobra after its funeral run and will be starting it up tomorrow. I do have one question...what kind of gas do I put in it?

Eileen

Eileen,

Thanks for the kind words. As everyone has said in all these posts, Steve will be greatly missed.
I have the same engine in my Mustang and I have always run mid grade fuel for best performance.
We all look forward to seeing you at our next get together.

Ray

Eileen, my guess is it will run fine on 87,89,or 91 octane. Just don't stick the stinky green handle stuff in it!

Eileen,

I would slurge a little an use 92 octane, it is readily available and it will definitely make sure you avoid pre-ignition ("pinging").

We will look forward to seeing you on the road some time soon!
