Recomendations for garage floor painting
Any recomendations for reasonable painting of new garage floor in the Seattle/Kirkland area?

I would try Costco. They have a nice product that they install.

I used a 2 part epoxy. Polyamide Epoxy????I believe its called. The same stuff used to paint swimming pools. Industrial strength and quite durable. The fumes will kill you so use good ventilation and respitator. Tints to any color but can be slippery when wet or covered in fine sawdust. I recomend using some form of a texture additive. You can see pics of my floor in my gallery. If you need more info let me know.

I used the u-coat-it system on my new shop-BIG mistake-prepped the floor as they recommended-now got peeling-have a claim against the company-next for me is to tile over once the car is built.

There are several good epoxy garage floor paints out there. Home Depot and Lowes both have decent kits, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore do, and so does Griot's garage. Many kits have the colored granules that you can sprinkle on to give it that "granite" look, and you can go over it with a clear coat as well.
However, and I can't stress this enough, a good garage floor paint means nothing unless you do the proper prep work. It is my opinion that you MUST etch the concrete with muriatic acid in order to allow the epoxy to bond to the floor properly. I know some kits say that you don't need to, but take some time and do it anyway. I've painted several garage floors in my day and I've NEVER had one peel. -Take your time and do it right. You won't be sorry. |

A very basic method is to tape on all sides an approx 1 ft sq of plastic to the floor and see if condensation appears after leaving overnight. . May not be the final determination, but an indication. You mentioned the floor is new. A professional vendor would not apply the product due to the moisture content of the cement. * Floor prep is of utmost importance, the best of products will not adhere if the surface is nor properly prepared. |
