Start-Up
IT RUNS. I feel as proud as Dr. Frankenstein having brought my "creation" to life. Safely tucked into my A&C chassis, my stroked small block came to life yesterday. Its appetite for 94 Octane is remarkable. Its heavy cam lope is enough to bring a tear to a grown man's eyes.
Pics to follow.
While not yet beautiful, due to the temporary mad scientist wiring and guage panel, it is something I am proud of. A diamond in the rough!

Steve:
As my old friends Roy and Dale used to say, "Happy trails to you". Good luck and congrats!

Start Up!!!!!!!!!!
Steve: way to go, saw the pics you sent me. With those big heads (not yours) it looks like a big block. It's gonna look awesome under the hood. Speaking of hood, when did Joe promise the hood and the rest of the body would be ready?
Gotta stop by soon and listen to it. When I started mine on labor day, after having it almost a year in the garage, the sound was incredible (almost c*****d the jeans, even at my age).
Again, way to go. It only gets better from here. 1300 miles since Oct 1st and loving every minute of it.

Start-Up
My A&C body is due in January. I may have to cancel the holiday season this year in order to complete my "honey-do" list in time! Someone asked me about heating my garage. All I have to do is start the engine (although, for some reason, I do get sleepy when the door is closed).

Cograt's Steve. Initial start-up certainly is an exciting moment. It sure got my blood flowing w/ excitement. Can't wait to see it on the road this Spring or pics sooner if I can make it down to State meeting.

1977 Ford 400M Bored .030 over = 406 c.i.
(The 400 is a 351 with an extra inch of stroke gained from 1" increased deck height)
My "70's Smog-Motor"
This odd combination is the result of:
1. An article on a build-up in a Petersen Magazine "Engines"
2. A neighbor having one and a C-6 sitting around
3. My inborn love of a bumpy, rough V-8 idle and lots of cubic inches
Specs:
Crane Cam
-Advertised 288/292 Intake/Exhaust
-Actual 226/230
TRW Speed Pro Forged Aluminum 4.030 Pistons
ARP Fasteners
Sealed Power High Volume Oil Pump
Crane Rocker Arms
Comp Cams Pushrods, Valve Springs & Retainers
Edelbrock Performer Dual Plane Intake & 600 cfm manual choke carb
March Pulleys
True Roller Timing Chain
Heads ported and polished Machined .025 off deck
Compression 9.5:1
Mallory Distributor
Streetdamper Harmonic Balancer
TCI 2,500 RPM Torque Converter
From the "Engines" article with stock exhaust manifold and all emissions gear in tact:
375 lb-ft torque at 2,000 RPM
456 lb-ft torque at 4,400 RPM
382 hp
I hope to have too much HP for this car and should have no trouble holding my own with you big block guys. It also has a really cool lopey idle Frank and Mike of the Ohio Cobra Club can testify to from their first brush with it. In between frustrating days of nothing fitting properly in the chassis, its ALL smiles.
