Car Show-DVSF Fundraiser
I spoke with the folks at Anderson's General Store about doing a car show to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis. They met today and agreed to let us do it. We're looking at June 5th (Saturday) as the date for the show. That's 3 weeks before DVSF. I'm getting back with them tomorrow to iron out some details. My proposal was to have an "all makes", rod, classic and custom show, charge $8.00 registration ($5 of which goes to CF) and make the donation on behalf of OCC @ DVSFIV. I'll need some help on this as I've never done a car show . I know there's some experience out there so any input would be most helpful. After my meeting tomorrow, I'll put it out on the net to the various car show sites. You can pass the word too, after I fill in some of the details from the meeting tomorrow.
I'd like to have a meeting to line up who, what, when & how.
I'm asking Anderson's to provide goodie bags and food concessions. Any one have an in with a trophy shop? My mind is boggled! I hope the Ohio Cobra Club will come thru on this effort. Stay tuned--news @ eleven!

Frank.
If I may, I can get the trophy(s) for you. Come up with a design. wording, quantity etc. It's the least I can do.
DV... well done, as usual!

Frank, I will be there! Judges, music, food vendors, etc. I can help with all three. Judges are easy to get. Who doesn't want to be one? Food vendors will word for sales alone. Music, that can be a challenge to get for free. Cost for live is about $1000, DJ playing the oldies or something like that is less than half of that. Be sure of turn out before you make a deal with some one. Don't have any really good ideas about classes to be judged or any thing like that. Contact all the local car clubs. I am sure you can find a list some where on the net. Just drop them an email when the plans are set. Put the show on:
http://www.ohiocarclubs.com/3.html
They have good traffic. Whip up a poster flyer and put it up at the Andersons on the front door.

Nice job, Frank! I seem to recall some years ago Anderson's had a car show. Anybody else remember that??
As far as awards go, make it easy on yourself, and just award the Top 10, Top 25, whatever. Classes are too much work. This seems to be the trend for most "informal" shows.
If you need extra help with anything, I MAY be available. Between work and a new son, not a lot of spare time these days! Lemme know. That goes for you too, Rick. I may have some time to help with your "secret" project, just not sure how much.

I agree with the recommendation for 'best 10.' This is an informal show so let the visitors, and that will include the car guys who enter, vote the top car and then arrange the ten that receive the most votes.
A manila envelope on each car, with a ballot available as you walk in. Viewer drops the ballot in the envelope of the car of choice. Vote as many times as you want - keep it simple. At two in the afternoon, someone gathers up the envelopes and by two thirty you can make the awards. Number ten gets a slot car, numbers one through three get 'real' trophies and the rest something in between.
As an alternative to a trophy, see about having a local photographer donate his skills to photograph the top vote getter, at a site to be agreed to by he and the car owner.
Have fun with it and don't try to recognize anymore than the informal setting calls for.

I to like the informal route. Envelope on the car or a ballet box and numbered cars. Make up a sheet that is formated to take a car number, owners name, make, model, year and a free form area. Give it to the owner when they register and number then as you hand them out. The owner can fill out the rest. Let the owner slip the sheet under a wiper blade and go! Ballot box with a bunch of slips of paper and pencil. People can vote at will, just right the number of the car down.
Have a Andersons favorite. Let the folks from Anderson pick their favorite as well. Gets them involved.
The food vendor that we had at the autocross for DVSFIII (dans deli) works for the sales, no charge to you. Remeber that DJ at that little cruise at Roosters on Olentangy. He was working for free. He was a local radio DJ. Mark Dancer I think. Could be wrong on that one.

Guys:
Thanks for the input! Great help! I proposed the date of June 5th but the store manager is out of the store 'till Friday. I'll have an OK on the date then. It looks like a "go" for the show itself. At least the manager said she likes the idea. More on Fri.

HI Frank,
Glad to hear that you are coming to the Winking thing.
Where is this Anderson place that you are talking about for the car show?

Frank,
I like the idea of an informal show also. How ever I would not allow others to have unlimited votes--- sometimes people have the neighbors -- all of relatives -- the dogs and cats come to vote.
Another suggestion is, no votes can be cast until after the registration time has elapsed.
Also, we can let "Crusin Times" and a few other publications advertise for us -- it's free ---
I'm glad your back in --- you are a real asset --
Mike

Jack:
Anderson's is like a Super K, a little bit of everything. Only 3 stores in Ohio. This one is on Bent Tree Road off of Rt 161 between Sawmill and Linworth Rds. I'll give out more specific directions later.
Mike:
Don't know if I'm back in or not. I just felt we (OCC) needed to do Something for CF & DVSF.

Well, it seems like the 5 June date is not OK with Andersons. With the restriction they gave me, to have the show before July 4th it only leaves June 12th and 19th. I'm hesitant to schedule too close to DVSF. What do you think? Does it make a difference? It would mean that those of you coming to the Fling would have to make two trips in a very short time.

If you guys think June 5th is a perfect date, take a nice long cruise out to the Philadelphia area and join the Tri-State "plus" clubs' get together. It should only take a few tanks of gas each way.
