Default Help Please - Tire Questions

I have 17's on my Cobra and have a Yokohama tire 315X35X17 on it currently on the rear. I like the tire but I know there are better options out there for Straight line traction. I've been told the Nitto in the same size is a great tire for traction, but it is also the cheapest. I'm a "you get what you pay for" guy. Is the Pilot, of BF Goodrich better tires or not. I'm not worried about tread life I don't put enough miles on the car to care, but I am worried about a real sticky tire picking up a lot of road junk and messin up my paint job. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys.

Spoony,
Not sure if they make it in your size, but I have Firestone Firehawk SZ 50EP tires on my car, 17". Mine are 275/40 on the rear. They have terrific traction and amazing tread life. They are pretty expensive, but as you said, you get what you pay for. I think any tire with good traction is going to be quite sticky and throw up stones. They way our cars are designed, any tires will throw stones on you. Have you looked into the shields for the fenders?

Thumbs up The BEST, in independent tests

Are what I chose: Pirelli P-Zeros ! Yes, they are sticky.. but the traction and handling are amazing.

I think it's impossible to have great traction without "sticky" at the same time.

The BFG T/A's don't have "great" traction, but they aren't sticky either.

I don't know how you can get both.

Excaliber,

Your exactly correct, but I guess I'm looking for traction first and I'll worried about paint second. I'm looking into having something fabricated to protect the rear quarters. Custom mud flabs, not too sexy but....

they make either clear or black shields for the front part of the rear qtr. panel to protect from stones and debris.

I have the F1 Goodyear Supercar 315 45 R17 On the rear of my SPF. They hook up well even with the 514.

The stickiest street tires I could find are BFGoodrich g-Force T/A. It's too bad the name sounds like the other tires they make which are terrible. Mine are 315-35-17s in back. You can browse tirerack.com and get an idea of what's available in a given size.
My tires really sling the debris and I love that sound, it's like a race car!
