Default Any news on Mid-Ohio Roll Bar issue...?

Yo...Godzilla....any more news on the Mid-Ohio roll bar height issue? Where does it stand now...are we in, or out? I have an Olthoff-designed higher rollbar that has been ceramic coated to look like my side pipes, so it's not really an issue for me. It's easy enough to install when I swap to my race wheels and Hoosiers, but obviously I need to know to install it prior to loading up to leave in June. I know it's a long way off, but inquiring minds want to know....

Also, if most make the decision to not purchase a higher rollbar and decide to ditch the track days, I'm down with that option, too. I'll probably still show up in Columbus a day early...you know, in time to set up the margarita machine for "field testing"... ...can't serve bad margaritas to anyone, now can we?

Roll bar height is, will continue to be, and will be increasingly so, an issue.

Bottom line is most of us have roll bars that are to short to be safe in a roll over. On the flip side of the coin, most of us don't like the look of the taller bar.

Good news is that any race shop can bend you one up cheap and on most of our cars, they are easy to change out. Spend the 2 to 3 hundred it costs to get a roll bar that is tall enough to save your life. You don't have to run it all the time if you don't like the look, just at the track. Heck, most of us spend that much on Cobra 'bling' every quarter so spending it on something that could save your life should be a 'no brainer' (as in what happens when you slide up side down the pavement with a short bar!). Also, I would recommend arm restraints and at a minumum, a neck roll. Cheap!

I have seen and heard of an increasing number of issues regarding the height of the bar. More and more tracks and organizations (and the companies that insure them) are just saying NO! Mid-Ohio told all the BMW and Porsche guys the same thing. Imagine how they reacted!

If you want to put your car on the track, I strongly recommend you get a bar of sufficient height. I would follow the SCCA guidelines on this and you should be safe. Mid-Ohio is looking for a rollbar that extends above the height of the helmet (which is shorter then the SCCA requirement).

Mid-Ohio will have a program to accomidate you regardless of the roll bar height. It will be a valuable and enjoyable experience. The exact nature of the program for those with roll bars of insufficient height is not yet known. When we know, you will!!
