Well, with all this discussion and spending some time with Peter at ERA, I have a plan. They'll do some form of roller and may paint it as well. I will at least do the interior and get the engine and drivetrain installed by a local shop. I'm going to supply the leather for the seats and door pockets and their guy will redo the seats and pockets.

I haven't chosen an engine builder yet, but have kind of narrowed it down to Lykins, Smeding, and Keith Craft, who hasn't sent a quote yet. Brent has been very responsive. I want a small block at 331-347ci and want to use the Eight Stack Weber-look EFI and know the guys at TWM pretty well and they're giving me a deal on that in a nice black wrinkle finish with polished air horns. I am as concerned with the quality of the parts, how it looks, and the detailing on the fit and finish as I am power. I only want about 375-400 wheel hp, so, I don't think I need to go very extreme on cams and want to keep it more refined than many of the motors I have heard used. It's meant to be the street version hopped up a bit.

That's about it. Close to doing it anyway.

And, Kevin, I live where the fun roads are. While 113 is nice, there are a lot of nice roads here. We should think bbq later this spring.

Hi Gordon,

I'll be in touch when the weather breaks and cruise up your way.

Gordon and Kevin,

I am going to be in the Poconos from 4/13-416 taking a professional drivers school at the race track so that I can obtain my vintage racing license. Am planning on driving the cobra there. Let me know if you are free, it would be nice to get together for a drink or dinner on the 13th-15th. If it is possible, send me a pm and I will send you my cell phone number.

Jim

I did the 5 day course last year with Bertil Roos. The only bummer is the crash box transmission in their cars. Great school. Very well run.

I am looking forward to it. Just taking the 3 day this time and may take a 2 day later. Are you racing currently, and what do you race?

Kevin, I received your pm. talk to you in a couple of weeks.

No, not currently racing. I'm looking for a Crossle 32. I'm pretty tall and Dennis at the school said I would fit in one. Lisa in the office is great. She will hold off on your certificate until your ready for the license. I believe the SCCA requires 2 races per year or you loose your license with them. I'm holding off until I get a car and then I'll send for that license. When I go for my flight physical, I'm going to see if the doctor will sign my physical sheet so I can get my vintage racing license. I only signed up for the 3 day but they gave me a great deal on the extra 2 day advance course so I stayed. Once in the advance class you're able to use the timers in the cars and at the end you get to do 2 races which qualify you for the SCCA license.

Well, we will have to see if they make me an offer I can't refuse. I am building a 1978 MGB race car. It used to be an SCCA race car in the early 90's. Hope to have it on the track by mid July. The vintage races will be at Watkins Glen and it is only an hour away.

I'm CA and seems ERA is recommended from the multiple Kit manufacturers. I just started doing my homework and in the homework/research stage. Does anyone know how much I'd be looking at to have one shipped to CA or recommend any reputable Co. that builds cobra's here in CA? I was looking at Emerson since the Co. is based out of CA but no mention of pricing so it leads me to believe it may be expensive; does any one have a good idea of what the pricing is? ERA seems reasonable for me and within my budget as I can take my time on an engine, would prob go with the roller option. Any advise would be more than welcomed!

I'm not familiar with Emerson - I have an ERA. As for shipping, this is from ERA's website:

For major distances, we typically use Intercity Lines, Horseless Carriage, Sunday Transport or Roadshow. They ship inside a box trailer all over the country. The price depends on your location. To major cities on the west coast, the cost would be about $2000.

Good luck with your decision.

I had an Emerson when I was in college. It would only pick up two stations, and the AM band didn't work at all. Occasionally the left speaker would quit working, but if you whacked it just right it played pretty well. It eventually got a beer spilled in to the back of it and that finally put it out of its misery. Other than that, it was alright, I guess.

I own an ERA.
I have no regrets.
I think that they make the most exacting replica, when outfitted correctly; period.

It has a very sophisticated suspension with rear outboard brakes optional.
I couldn't be happier with the way the car handles.
I have an FE 428 SCJ with edlebrock heads, Top loader trans, knock-off wheels.

I plan on checking them out! I just can't find what I'd be looking at for a Superformance roller? Any idea what one runs for price range?
