Default Upper coolant pipe bend radius

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum looking for some help with the correct 1-3/4" upper coolant tube for a 427 car. Can anyone tell me what the centerline radius of the tube is correct for the 427. Thanks in advance. Rob

I think mine is pretty darn close to 90 degrees.

He's looking for a CLR centre line radius not a bend angle. In this case 3".

Ahhh, Rick Parker recommends these guys: http://www.burnsstainless.com/tubingmain.aspx Apparently there have been threads on here with guys having problems with crappy connecting tubes.

Burns does some nice stuff but kinda pricey. The real problem is "Custom bending is available for quantities of 50 pieces or more." If'n your only needing one. The tube goes from 2" at the expansion tank to 1-3/4" at the radiator. I have them available as pictured if you have a need.

That's interesting. I bet I've looked at that tube a thousand times and never noticed that before.

You can see it in your pic where the clamp is cinched down at the tube end. It's hard to notice with your incorrect CLR tube ;-)

Burns will expand the ends for $7.00 per expansion, not sure how far the stainless can be stretched (? anyone know?). An option I have used is getting a section of a radiator hose that is shaped correctly an steps up a 1/4". IE: from 1 3/4 to 2" OD. There is one on the lower metal tube here that has the above dimensions. The upper hose changes 1/4" also but in a longer length of hose.

Mickmate:

The swedges on the longer tube are they expanded from the original tube or larger diameter pieces welded and then nicely metal finished??

The ends are indeed expanded. The electrical connectors I was making at one time would curl your toes how much they would expand them by driving a pin into the ends of the tube. We also swaged the ends down to reduce diameter (and increase wall). The top tube shown in my pic doesn't show the expanded end I put on it. As you said Rick they can be put together from pieces and finished to look purty if you have the time, tools, skills and inclination (all at the same time and place of course).

I bought a set of these from Nick and they were absolutely perfect and even fit my smallblock waterpump to the lower radiator connection perfectly. Don't know how he did it, but it met the lower radiator bung, went through the Xbrace without touching a thing and lined up perfectly with the water pump outlet. The upper had to be shortened on one leg to fit, but not a big deal.
One of these days I'll post some pics of my build so you can see some of the custom stuff Nick does for these roadsters.

Are they mild steel or stainless? If stainless what alloy?

They're 304 stainless. They'll expand about 3/8" without popping them.
