Default Dick Smith's # 189 (Duh...198)

Besides Dick smiths #189 and The COX cars like Nedsters' . Were there other 427 body/suspension-289 engine cars ? What's the history ?

Huh?

Dick's #198, CSX3035, was a standard 427 Comp finished to S/C specs as new.

Dick Smith's Cobra, CSX3035, is most certainly NOT a small-block car - it is an original, fire-breathing Big-Block S/C Cobra. The FFR "tribute" cars to "#198" may be equipped small-blocks, but not the original.

There were a number of BB bodychassis Cobras built with 289's - all bearing "COX" or "COB" VINs. The answer to your questions would be in the SAAC Cobra Registry (What? You're a Cobra enthusiast, but you don't own a SAAC Registry? How can you tell one Cobra from another without a SAAC Registry?)

To clarify, there are leaf spring 289's with the prefix of COX and COB also.

The new FFR model is a tribute to Dick Smiths original???

I remember reading that they were going to try to make an exact copy of it and offer it as a special addition, but i thought the project failed or was scraped because their frame was just too dimensionally different to make the shape of an original fit.

The COX/COB prefix is used with 60xx and 61xx series, not 3xxx series.

Stop getting information off FFR.......
CSXinfo is a great resource as is this site in the originality forum. No knock about FFR, love their cars, just that original talk and FFR are usually not in the same breath.

To my knowledge they never did splash the body of 3035? With thier frame it should have been top on the list.... Well, it leaves room for their MKV model..

The MkV is not a tribute to Dick's car, not even close. They "should" have replicated it given that they had a perfect pair (they had the digital body scans of 3035 and have been forever set free from fear of CS lawsuits) but chose not to, one can only presume why not. But the notion of being unable to fit a correct body to their chassis seems a very unlikely excuse.

Default He had a small block car too, but it was a replica...

Dick owned a small block in his Cobra alright, but it was not his original 427 #198 car. Maybe someone is confused about the fact that Dick owned a neat little Black replica FFR, had a cool little trailer for it too; now this one had a small block in it. He enjoyed buzzing it around too. Snagged a photo taken by one of the members on this site. He is certainly missed by many....

Below is the companion photo that shows the trailer ...

I had the pleasure of talking with Dick about his car and trailer, quite a combo ... I had never met him before and at the time did not quite realize just who he was. I had a feeling he was more than your average Cobra enthusiast. It was a short time later that I figured it out and glad I had the privilege of meeting him.

Did the body of 3035 differ from other SC cars?

Not off the lot...it was a standard Comp car done to S/C specs.

It was modified over the years with the dash being changed, the bumpers, under the hood, etc. among other things
