Default Bright Blue Metalline

Hi Guys!

Trying to research colours for my 289 build, has anyone any details of the Bright Blue Metalline colour used in the mid 60's on the 289 street roadsters.

Cheers for the help!

Cheers for the reply
I know Guardsman Blue was the colour used by the Shelby racing team, but the bright blue on the street 289's looked a bit darker.
I've got a picture from an old magazine. It's supposed to be Bright Blue Metalline.

Stu, that colour is listed as being used on some of the early AC Ace/Aceca/Bristol cars, both UK and export, and clearly found its way onto some of the COB/COX cars as well. The car in the B&W pic, BEX 430 is listed as being originally painted Bright Blue Metalline with a cream interior. A visit to the site below will give you a large listing of AC cars that you can scroll through to find likely colour combinations which will in turn allow you to look up the actual car to try and track down a paint code. http://www.acaceca.de.tl/AC-Ace-and-Aceca.htm

A few pics from the list of cars (serial #'s in the pic URL's) shows the likely colour to be a bit more blue than the magazine photo you posted. That photo; if you look at the road, the red shirt and even the greenery; appears to be over saturated with magenta, giving the car a more purplish hue.

That's the problem with choosing colours from the web or even photos - you are never 100% sure what it looks like until you see it in the flesh! Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Buzz. Real food for thought. Yes you are quite right choosing from a photo or magazine isn't the ideal.
I'm hoping to get mine in paint in spring so I've got a few weeks to go.

what colour did you go with in the end Stu?
the pic looks very much like a volvo blue thats used a lot on crendons as a close approximation to Guardsman blue. but ofcourse you can never tell properly from a pic.

Stu, your car looks fantastic! I have been considering nightmist blue, which is much darker for my 289 fia. Please post the paint code as I may have to change my mind after seeing your beautiful car!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the kind words

Spoke to the painters the code is JRJ Tahiti Blue which was the nearest modern alternative to Blue Metalline.

Hope that helps!
