Question 289 engine date codes

This might be a tough question... but fun information!

Anyone know what the typical date codes (if there is a typical) for the 289 cars' engines? I was looking for a core and wondering what date to look for. I plan to replicate 2459 from July 64, but it got a heart transplant in October of 64... after a heart attack at Bridgehampton.

How long would it take for an engine to be built at Ford, shipped out west, reworked at Shelby, then installed on a car?

Get healthy! C4 is 64. As far as exact dates, I'm sure someone will pipe up here. Good luck with the build!

Anywhere from a few weeks before a particular car was finished to many months before. Chassis were not finished in order received nor were engines installed in order received.

Lew blew up the engine and Carroll gave him a replacement... just trying to figure out what that date code might have been.

OK, I spoke with an original CSX owner, who indicated that the general thought is that within 2 months prior to the finish date is correct for engine date codes...

I have a few other inquiries out there, still.
