I have never found any traces of any type of surface protection coating on the cast iron Ys, even on low mile near new take off parts. The Ferry Cap and Set Screw COUNTR-BORŪ externally wrenched twelve point cap screws, internal hex lock washers, and studs were all black oxide coated. No gaskets go between the heads and iron Ys. The gaskets for the steel tube headers use to be something that small engine shops could provide. All Ys, headers, gaskets are not equal in performance so owners often report burn outs in less than a year. Over the years corrosion and over tightening can often mean Ys to header flange fits that are pretty bad.
I don't know if he has any left by an owner had gaskets made in a couple of different materials a few years ago that some people have used with success. I don't know if he still has any. Any gasket shop can make parts to order.
