Default CSX2323 - 1964 FIA Car Number 146

Here are some photos of the 1964 FIA car number 146 raced by Dan Gurney and Jerry Grant.

I took these photos in January 2009, when CSX2323 was on display at Canepa Design in Scotts Valley, California. The car is absolutely beautiful and it looks even better in person … one of my all time favorites.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting!!! Anyone know when & how much body work has been done to this car?
I know there is only one that hasn't been re-done, Correct? Great shots of a beautiful car!

This is the second most original "FIA" 289 Cobra. It was wrecked at Nuremburg in 1964 by Enzo Arena, then Shelby sent the car back to AC for a complete rebuild (at a greater cost than what it originally cost).

Glad you guys like the photos ...

Two details I find interesting:

--- 000000 miles on the odometer, which is not too surprising as it is a race car after all.

--- A pad on the clutch pedal ... but not on the brake pedal.

I saw the car when it was Canepa. Absolutely beautiful. Where is the car located now?

I noticed the pad but not the mileage. Guess no one would be too concerned anyway.

Good question ... when I saw it in January '09 I believe it was for sale ... maybe some lucky person bought it ?

Thumbs up

I saw this car race in the Targa. It is responsible for my Cobra Lust. I could never afford it or any original Cobra, but thanks to Superformance, I get to pretend in one of their cars in Portofino Blue with a Red FIA nose bar. Back in 1964 the Italians had never heard a " huge" American V8 and everytime the mechanics would start one up they would wet themselves, Of course a Ferrari won, but you could hear that Cobra Song for miles before it came around and they just went nuts. I thought it was odd that all the Cobra's raced with their California licence plates ? I believe it was sold to Tombstone Johnston who raced it in the States.

Great story about a great race car. I too, fell in love with the Cobra and its loud bellow as a little guy back in the sixties and built ERA 718 in '05/'06 after about forty years of lust. I still cannot get enough. Last year I built a scale replica of CSX 2323 and would build a full scale ERA FIA replica if space and cash permitted.

You even got the nose bar right, many don't but what the hay, mine is a SC poser not a true replica of a FIA. I talked to ERA but the SPF was the most practical option. Now I charge around on the backroads of Washington playing boy racer at 71...hell, I think I will by a scarf !! I would rather have that car than a Picasso but it would likely cost as much.

Kurt,

You are very welcome, glad to help.

Have you started a build thread for your car? Would be great to follow along the progress of your car as it's being built

I didn't want to hijack the thread, just show my enthusiasm for CSX2323.

Bartruff 1 ... you mentioned that this car might have been sold to Tombstone Johnston . I knew of , and watched him race at VIR and other tracks , Graham ( Tombstone ) Shaw . There are some pictures of Shaw in my gallery . Some coincidence that two people have the same handle .

Bob
