Scott, You did a magnificent job on CSX 3360, from what I can see from these and other photos and You-Tube videos of the first start-up--those are wonderful!

Thanks for noticing the original Trico windshield washer bottle, which I also supplied to Canepa Design. However, that wasn't on loan. I was fairly compensated with other original 427 and 289 Cobra parts in trade for that device.

For those that didn't read the entire other thread, I did get my parts back per our agreement, albeit a tad later than I expected.
Scott's team created a fabulous replica handle of the original screwdriver.

Scott, please tell me how you created that handle and the paint and how did you make the grooves in the handle after it had been painted without chipping the paint???

I have access to a couple of original screwdrivers and will be making the ferrules. I have created an exact replica of the handle as well. Your reproduction ferrule is a little off, but very nice.
I am looking at more flexible BDS decals for the screwdriver. The ones I made don't handle the curves of the handle very well.

For those that followed the previous thread, I want folks to know that Scott had nothing that I know of to do with the delays. Thanks for sharing the photos. Congratulations to you and Bruce for the win at the show. Well deserved!

How did you finish the Sunbursts and the knockoffs? My steel knockoffs rust within minutes of washing them, turning a nice oxidized gold (or brown if you want to be plain about it....)

I did not make the screwdriver, that was our head fabricator, Charlie Burton. I don't know his exact method but Charlie is amazing. I know he spent some ridiculous amount of time making it, like 10 hours or more.

I'm glad we were able to get the Trico reservoir. It was in very good shape when we got it. The plastic bottle was perfect but the label was a little faded but intact. We sent it off to a graphic designer who duplicated it for us. He did several iterations until Bruce approved the perfect duplicate. I hope everything you got in trade was to your satisfaction.

I made this duplicate of the battery cable label but Bruce Decided he would rather use his original one:


We had the knockoffs silver cadmium plated which would have been correct for those. They do get rusty quick so we protected them with a layer of clearcoat. I think we painted them with several different tints of clear before Bruce settled on one he thought was good.

Bruce is an extreme perfectionist. He would have to be to restore a car to this level of perfection. He loves this car. He keeps this car in the back, away from the public. I see him just staring at it sometimes. It gets wiped down regularly and is always clean.

A beautiful car and the last of the 427s but not the last of the original 60s production run which continued into 1968.

The last complete car was an AC 289 Sports (COX 6125) with two further incomplete 289 cars COX 6126 and COX 6127 being built by AC Cars.

3360 was the last 427 Cobra by chassis number, meaning there were no big-block Cobras with chassis numbers higher than CSX 3360. Many of the AC 289's were built after the contract to supply cars to Shelby had terminated, as the cars were still being sold in Europe into 1969.

Well, that confirms it: When I finally build or buy a Cobra, it will be a 427 street model. Love that curvaceous hood and rear deck undisturbed by scoop and roll bar. Lovely color, too. And it has an ashtray - that would be a perfect touch for a street reproduction.

That Thor hammer has copper and rawhide faces. What did the car likely ship with?

The battery cable label goes on the red Rotunda positive battery cable used on most street 427 cars. As the label states, it is 12 inches long, meaning it wouldn't reach on the S/C versions.

The original Thor hammer in the Cobra tool kits was the copper-rawhide variety, similar to the one shown in the photo above for CSX 3360.

Is that the original color for 3360 and is it similar to the navy blue that Shelby offers on the 4000/6000 cars? Looks very similar in the pics. I got 6022 in navy blue and have wondered whether it is a recreation of an original color or something new. I haven't seen another 3000 car in this color before.

I have been really interested in making a tool kit for my 4000 series. Would you mind sharing the details of your kit? I'd love to learn the dimensions of the original and the specific details of the tools included (spanner wrench sizes, etc.). What's the steel rod for?

When I saw the car at the Palo Alto show and took the photos, I recall talking with someone that said the car was originally red. I am sure a member here on CC with the shelby registry can confirm this. The blue Bruce picked seems to be a favorite, as he as a 32 Ford with the same or very similar color, a non metallic deep blue.

You can contact Canepa and ask what about the color, not sure if you will get an answer. It's a very nice choice.

I don't have any undercarriage photos from the Concours, possibly someone else has some? I have no doubt that the underside of the car is just as spectacular as the topside !

I believe the current CSX navy blue is also non-metallic. Thanks for the info and the pics.

The steel rod is the "tommy bar" that is used to slide through the end of the handle of the car jack in order to turn the handle and crank up or down the jack. Earlier jack handles used a wooden bar or dowel for this purpose but Cobras came with the steel "tommy bars".
