Default 289 Carpet Heel Pad

Would anyone be able to provide a photo of what the original 289 heel pad in the driver carpet floor mat looks like. Also, wanted to confirm that this pad was only in the driver side and not the passenger side originally. Also, if there are any ideas on where to obtain same/similar heel pad material as the original, I would appreciate it. Automat indicates they have 2 types to choose from (pebbly and ribbed) --- I am not sure if either is correct/similar to the original stuff.

The mats had rubber pads on both sides, driver's and passenger's. The mat is ribbed. I'll post a photo later when I get a chance. There is a place in England that sells it. I'll look that up, too.

Good morning Jim. Working on a real car. Need your source for the heel pad material in England. Saw your thread from a year ago. don't want to chop the pad out of my original carpets. I already have an original carpet roll from the 60's. Just need a pad. Any information would be helpful. Thanks. Bob

patty442 says, "I already have an original carpet roll from the 60's."

Where did you find it? And how?

Steve, my brother brought it back from England on a business trip on the Queen Elizabeth, ocean liner, with his luggage, I think around 1968. I'll ask him if he remembers the exact year. I still have the complete carpet set that I carefully took out of my car, myself, in 1974. It is absolutely 100% the same. Same rubbery square backing, pile, color, pattern of fiber attachment.. He bought it at the parts department desk at AC at the factory. The parts guy behind the counter said they were still using it and it was the same as the all the Cobras that went to the US. It has been stored in my Mom's cedar lined, climate controlled fur storage room for I guess about 40 years. The door has not been opened in 20 years. My car is just about done and I didn't know where I had it stored. I just found it last week.

Wow! The carpet survived the generations far better than my baseball card collection. I had a Mickey Mantle rookie card. Mom saw stuff 'He doesn't play with anymore and he'll never miss.' The carpet lay there for forty years, never in anyone's way and attacting no one's interest. Damn Mick, how do these things turn out as they do? Great story!
