Street splitter detail

I have been researching front, bright 'Splitters' fitted to late 427 and 289 Street cars, and have found enough info to suggest that the bright strip may well be the same dimensions as bright strips fitted to the exterior of early VW Beetles.

I have purchased some second hand strips, but all are too long to fit correctly in the front opening of my car and have different shaped ends, therefore I need to cut one down.

Could you please tell me if they should have a rounded Spooned at each end as the picture below

Or have a square spooned end or straight cut ends.

Update.....

I have had a go at shortening some VW Beetle side stips I bought from Ebay for £1.00 ($1.50) plus P+P, and modified the ends to achieve the length and put a rounded shape on the cut end.

The top pic below is the original part,the lower is my effort, not perfect but you will have to get run over to see the differnece.....

I made a simple wooden tool to bend the part and then trimmed the edge.


I am pleased with the outcome. so don't tell me it should be a straight cut end know.......

What piece of VW trim is this your working with? I have a ERA -supplied
self-adhesive, chrome plastic piece of trim to go on mine. But, that looks much nicer.

The ERA strip looks great on the car with bumper bars and hoop also installed. You can't see the ends at all without using a dental mirror or equivalent.

I am using the Exterior strip which is attached to the front and rear wings of the early VW Beetle, it is held on with small plastic clips.
the self adhesive parts are usualy fitted the interior door trim.

Sorry...Translation: Wing = Fender
Running Board = Running Board

i.e. the strip that runs parallel with the lower edge of the windows, from front to back, the front and rear sections have a rounded end on One end and square ends next to the door shut, the section in the middle ( Door section) has square ends on either end, so I would have had to change both ends.

I did not pick the running board part as (1) it is wider approx. 1/2", which I believe to be a little too big when scaled from the pictures I have and (2) forming stainless is real hard work without splitting it...

I had been told it was the running board piece but agree the upper belt moulding stainless looks more like the piece.

The original piece has a much more complex cross section like an open topped radiused corner tee shape. They could be reproduced if there was enough demand but most people have gone the other way "SCising" street cars and removing splitters. The Beetle one looks and fits good, especially against a nice contrasting color painted splitter.
