Default Dunlop alloy wheels

Ive seen a few pics of race Cobras equipped with the Dunlop alloys. Were these offered as an option on the street roadster as well?

Tony:

Here's another thread...I believe they are stamped steel, fwiw.

Dunlop Wheels?

I believe they were used as a more robust alternative to the wire wheels on the early cars although many other cars of the period competed with wire wheels...the later halibrands, kidneys, fia's, were more of a region-specific solution for robustness and increasing tire width requirements..

Somebody please correct me if I'm off base..

- Allen.

Well, I stand corrected...the ones that Adrian sells are high-pressure diecast and powder coated. I've spoken to Adrian in the past and he is a very good man to speak with. Feel free to give him a call when the time is right. Also, I'm heading over there in October if you want me to bring a set back for you.

Dunlop Style Wheels

Allen I was wondering if they were available in steel also. I believe that style was available on most British sports cars, some up into the 70s.

Not to my knowledge. The Dunlop wheels were/are a race wheel and were predominantly fitted to Jaguars from D-Types onwards.

Both 2142 and 2131 used 10-slot Dunlop alloy wheels. They had Rudge spline bolt on adapters that allowed the wheel to be mounted on the stock hub.
2142 still uses them today in vintage racing though they are wider than the original wheels.

CS2131 at Tertre Rouge, LeMans. Note the difference in the wheel on the LWE Jag and the Cobra. Both are Dunlops but this Jag has the two piece wheel from the earlier D-Type. Later LWE's used the one piece ten slot.
