Kidney bean wheels
I'm looking at the feasibility of using "kidney bean" wheels, but I'm struggling to find information on the availability of these wheels, and also appropriate tyres.
Firstly, anybody know if PS Vintage / PS Engineering Vintage are still producing wheels and trading? I've seen thread info to say not, and haven't had a reply to emails.
PS Vintage were producing:
- Kidney Bean in 15, and all std. widths
- FIA style in 15 x 6 ½ , 7 ½, 8, 8 ½
If they were still trading, then I would be covered for the widths I need and also for suitable 15" tyres, and all is OK.
Secondly, Trigo produce:
- FIA style in 15 x 7 ½ and 15 x 9 ½ (9 ½ on the rear is too wide for what I want, and using 7 ½ wheels front and rear won't look right)
- Kidney Bean style in 16 x 6 and 16 x 8
These kidney bean widths are suitable, but 16" tyres don't seem to be at all popular. Anybody know where, for example, 255/60x16 tyres can be sourced?
Cheers,
Glen

Unfortunately PSE closed a few months ago. They WILL be missed by many.

Glen, I don't think you can go wrong. I love the look of the American Racing wheels! I've been thinking of getting a set of American Racing Kidney Beans for quite a while now in 11's and 8's. I reckon they look fantastic on a Cobra.
Regards.

I have a set of 17" ps kidneys, pin drive, that fit ERA FIA. They have tires on them with most of the tread left. The wheels are black should be in my gallery. I'd sell them...

I'll have to look into whether they could be drilled for centre lock

Thanks for the offer Hyde, and lovehamr....and Gary. 16" Trigos I could just live with, but 17" diameter is stretching lack-of-originality a bit too far for my requirements.

You're getting quite excited there Mando. Do I detect another project sometime in the future?

Salt flats are okay I think. I use 15" and because I try to replicate the Allen Grant Coventry Motors Cobra, I pinted them like the original.
If you need real ones Glen, I bought a few months ago 9 wheels from the early '60s. 5 with spline drive!!! and 4 with 5 x 4.5 bores. Will pick them up in a few weeks and can send some pics if you want. Real ones are not cheap you know :-)
Cheers

PS Engineering Kidney Bean wheels are back....
More information to hand on PS Engineering and availability Kidney Bean wheels....
PS Engineering's Kidney Bean wheels will soon be available again in a range of widths in 15" and 16" diameters.
I put in an enquiry with PS Engineering Wheels some time ago, asking about 15" Kidney Bean wheels, and just this week received a reply back from Vintage Wheel Works who are acquired PS Engineering.
Here is part of their reply (which they were happy for me to post on this forum):
"We recently acquired PS Engineering.....
....the Kidney Bean style will be offered in 15, 16 and 17. We can offer you a 15x6, 15x7, 15x8 or a 15x9..... In 16 we can offer a 16x7, 16x8 and 16x9.5 and in a 17 we can offer a 17x7, 17x8 and 17x9. ...."
Their contact details are:

Glenn,
They're not real close to you but Gordon Leven in Emu Plains NSW has a good range of 15 inch Avons, I'm pretty confident that someone could probably bring them to Shelbyfest. MT street radials (Drag Radials) are available from Rocket Industries in 255/60/15. I have a couple of near new ones that I'm willing to part with, they haven't been on a track, road only. I wouldn't recommend them for the front though.

Great if you can keep us informed on the rims as I'd be interested in a set of Kidney Beans as well, but maybe blank as I need a Torana bolt pattern.
cheers
