Goodyear Blue Dot
I've posted this here as it falls under the originality category and only obsessive/compulsive people like us who are interested in originality would possibly be interested.
I've been wanting to recreate the raised blue dot on my tires. I know the circle is 7/8 with a depth of roughly 1/16" and it's blue. I started trying to stencil it on with ranger tire paint (old tire). It worked ok but not great plus it obviously had no depth. My new idea is to find a "rubber" that I can punch out or cut out and glue to the tire with the approximate correct depth and paint the top blue.
I'm not a chemist, rubber expert, etc.
Any ideas?

Be aware the the 'dot' on the tire wasn't really blue, but more of a bluish-green.

You are correct but close is good enough seeing I have a fake care anyway!! I think getting the correct solution for the material and adhesion to the tire is paramount then I can worry about matching the color. I take it you are in LI? I'm in CT.

I'm right on the water in Milford! I'd love to meet up some day and bend your ear on the Street Cobra stuff. I was into it heavy for some time, life got in the way (work & kids) but now I have a renewed interest.

1.Buy a bicycle tire tube
2.cut out small circular chunk
3.Glue small circular chunk to tire with tire adhesive as required.
4.Coordinate with computerworks for matching color.
5.Color glued on circular chunk with approved color.
6.Drive car with blue dot until it falls off.....then repeat process hundreds of times with unused portion of bicycle tube and adhesive.
Best I can come up with on a moments notice.

You could use foam rubber that comes in a roll that is used to insulate cold water pipes.
Just the right amount of thickness and smooth
Use contact cement meant for rubber, wet suits, etc. and it won`t come off.

Update:
So I have done some more digging on this project and have been collecting samples of rubber I can use. I think I finally found a rubber sample that may work. I'm waiting on a punch so I can make the 7/8 circles I need. I have a can of white and blue ranger tire paint. I need to experiment with cutting the blue with the white because I know the "blue" was more a greenish blue or a lighter blue. It was not dark blue for sure. I'm going to go as close as possible on the color with out getting nuts.
The plan is you punch out with a paper punch a 7/8 circle using frog masking tape to use as a temple or barrier on the tire so the glue does not get all over. This will expose only the 7/8 tire rubber. I will glue that area. Glue the back of the "dot" then stick them together with hopefully little to no overspill of glue.
Once I get the punch I'm going to cut a piece out and glue it on one of my daily drivers in the rear and run that for a week of so to see if it peels, etc.
Thats all for now folks...again any suggestions I am open to.

Hi 428street. Did you make good progress with your Blue Dots?
What rubber material did you use?
What glue did you use? Acetone prep?
How did the color work out?
I read on another forum that 1977 Chevy Blue Engine paint was a good match. Can't imagine though that VHT engine paint would stick well to rubber.

A good friend of mine had a set of them. He also had 8 vintage Shelby Mustangs. He passed away a couple years ago and his 23 yr. old granddaughter got everything!

Here is my progress. Again, I've stalled but I am close. Picture is worth a 1000 words. Any questions let me know.
So far I have purchased a 7/8" punch which I have been using to punch the slugs out of. This is an art as I find it hard to cut of a perfect circle. 2 out of 5 are usable. I've tried a bunch of different rubber type glues. Best so far has been gorilla glue and tire patch glue. I have to try rubber roofing cement next. I also have a 7/8 and 1" paper punch to cut out the template so the glue does not get all over the tire. I adhere the masking tape to some wax paper so I can use the paper punch and it does not stick to the punch. Open to any and all opinions. I have not concentrated too much on the color. I've been using ranger paint and cutting the blue with some white. I might order some yellow to get that greenish blue correct color.
