Original shifter bezel/ring with FOMOCO stamping
I believe it was mickmate that posted long ago a list of original parts that made their way onto early cars. One of those parts was the chrome shifter bezel/ring from an early 1960's Ford Galaxie or Fairlane. The supposed unique detail on this part was that the FOMOCO logo was also stamped into it and was visible.
Can any of the original owners on this forum post a photograph from their current CSX car that shows this detail? And if you have a spare lying around, PM me and let's have a more serious chat.

I have yet to see an original shifter bezel that has the FoMoCo stamp on it in a visible spot when mounted:
1) it wouldn't be cosmetically unacceptable
2) during the chroming process it would be hard to get a part that was uniform in appearance
3) I do know a person that used to stamp his own reproduction bezels, why I have no idea

Don't believe that MM guy he don't know nuttin ;-) I think he changed his mind on the stamp anyway.

Years ago I had a Sunbeam Tiger - I'm sure the shifter bezel on that had the 'fomoco' stamping under the chrome, but memory may be playing tricks...

Do you have any photos to share, or know of another Sunbeam owner that might be able to help out with that? I'm not going to give up on this one until I hear something more definitive. |

I've since gathered additional intel on this. It's quite possible that either a US or UK pre-production/prototype version of this bezel was produced in very limited quantities and that is what some have referenced in old photos or in memory. I'd still love to see at least a photograph of one just to get a feel for the FoMoCo stamping's size/scale and location on the actual part.

I think that "urban legend" sourced from a long ago webpage where someone itemized the parts on Cobras, with more than a few errors.

OK, I got another one......even more on the autistic spectrum.............
Trico washer bottle geeks, listen up.......
So: on original cars (yeah, I know, Im talking street cars, not S/Cs), were the washer jets that were mounted in front of the screen actually Trico items (and so had Trico written on the chrome), or were more communal every day items used?

If you're talking 289s, the washer jets were a very unusual and rare type. They consisted of a pressed stainless steel plinth, attached with two slotted screws through a thin rubber gasket and a flat stainless baseplate. Between the two was sandwiched a stainless steel washer jet nozzle balljoint, with a knurled head. This has the take-up spout sticking down into the car, through the baseplate. The balljoint could be adjusted to aim the jet. These are seriously hard to find now, and would be a great subject for remanufacture. I do know of another make of car to which they could be sold also!
I have no idea who made them. I don't think it was Trico, more likely a low-volume run by Smiths.

Looked in Motorsports International parts book on page 185./ part # = 15-121. Description = oem chrome plated shift boot trim ring ( with fomoco logo) / part # 15-023 described as oem chrome plated shift boot trim ring, as original / part# 15-024 described as replacement shift boot trim ring ( "solid steel" chrome plated ) ???? Prices effective 02/01/94 part# 15-121 = 24.50 / part# 15-023 = 39.95 / part# 15-024 = 65.00

Cobra screen jet = Lucas
There are at least two versions of nozzle but I have found only one on unrestored Cobras.
If purchased in a Lucas "sundries kit" instructions and a little wrench for aiming the spray was included.

Find somebody in the EbayŽ UK site tthat has sundry kits for sale and then ask about screen jets. I landed several nos sets that way.
