Default The Tool Kit: almost done

I picked up my new tool roll from the upholstery shop yesterday and assembled all my e-bay treasures.

I'm almost done:

One of the Elora 100 AF spanners will need replating.

The Elora spanner clip will need the correct blue paint.

The mock-up screwdriver will be replaced later this week with a better prototype.

The BDS decal for the screwdriver is in process.

The pliers will need some flat black on the handles.

And I'll wait patiently for the correct brake bleeding tool.

Almost done. Thanks to all on this forum who contributed the historical details.

Cheers
Greg

Nice work Greg, you're becoming quite a resource yourself as well as being resourceful.

Wow, that looks really awesome! Nice job!
The spanner clip I saw looked like it was blued, sort of like a gun barrel is finished. Not sure if thats the standard for all Cobras but that's the way I remember that particular clip.

That looks amazing. Does your car have Whitworth fasteners?

Thanks Larry. The clip had most of the "Elora Blue" worn off and the exposed metal does have a patina like gun blueing. Might be because its spring steel.

Hi rsk289. My car has all american fastners. The Elora 100 spanners are "AF" sizes which correspond directly to SAE sizes: 1/2 AF = 1/2" SAE.

But the tool kit will be for "show" only. I have a different set of tools for road going.

Cheers

It's a pretty impressive piece of work whichever way you look at it!

I presume the original toolkit would have been a mix of Whitworth for the chassis parts and AF sizes for the motor?

Hi rsk289. The historical experts on the forum have ventured the opinion that different sets may have been supplied over the span of Cobra production.

289 cars had Whitworth/British Standard and later 427 cars may have come with AF sizes.

Don't know for sure. I copied my kit after the Bruce Canepa restoration of CSX3360.

Cheers

Sorry, my narrow-minded brain always forgets the 427s!
If you're looking for Whitworth/BSF there are plenty available over here, but probably not Elora.

Hi again rsk289. I have seen many Elora 100 spanners labled BW/BS and labled just BS come and go on e-bay UK over the last few months.

Probably enough to do 3 or 4 sets if someone was willing to be diligent and patient.

Cheers

Default Easy

I'll try to find a photo tomorrow of a gun I restored, I've done several, if you want it down, I can do it. If you want to learn, instead, I can fill you in.

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the correct grease gun for a 289 is a Tecalemit GB2800. Is that the same one used in the 427's?

Hi Larry. Check out this web-site. It seems to be the definitive word on grease guns.

Default Why didn't I think of that!

It would be helpful if a vendor could supply a complete, correct tool kit for Cobras, including (optional) grease gun. That way, we wouldn't have to spend so much time hunting down the complete set (for car shows or whatever)

Thanks Greg! That was super info about the grease guns. As usual, it came mostly from the Cobra info God Dan Case!

You mean the 3/16" Whitworth or 7/16" AF one?
