How to carpet around dash support tubes?
Hi all. Does anyone have any good pics or can explain how the carpet goes around the dash support tubes on the trans tunnel.
I'm assuming the carpet on the tunnel is two pieces:
First piece under the dash - from the firewall at the front to the support tubes.
and
Second piece from the support tubes to the rear bulkhead behind the seats.
Does the first piece overlap the second aft of the support tubes,
or
Does the second piece overlap the first piece forward of the support tube.
Trying to figure out which pieces to trim and which way will lay better.
Thanks
Greg

Tunnel stops at the tubes with a couple of notches in the front for it. Carpet just wraps the tunnel edge. Piece ahead of that covers the L shaped panel ahead of it. The panels overlap each other.

Is that correct? Maybe I just never looked closely enough but I always thought the tubes were just left painted black. Could it be the SC and Comp versions were bare while the street was wrapped in vinyl?

I'm sure the carpeting provided by the different manufacturer's is different, but the ERA carpet is a solid piece for the tunnel and the holes for the tubes need to be cut through the carpet. I haven't carpeted the tunnel yet, but for other holes in the carpet (seat belt mounting points, door latch mounts, etc.) I've made extensive use of an old solder iron to melt holes rather than try to cut around. ERA instructions are to paint the tubes black but I've kept my vinyl scraps and have enough to cover the tubes and thought about that already. Not sure what was original but the vinyl would look good.
Regards,
Kevin
