Door panels/pockets

Hi all. Can anyone tell me how, on the 427 Street Cobra, are the door panels/pockets attached to the door?

Screwed?
Glued?
Snaps?

Is there any structure to the panel (like a fiberboard backing) or is the panel/pocket simply an unstructured piece of vinyl/leather attached to the door?

There are no door panels on original 427 Cobras. The street cars have carpet covering the inside of the door, the same carpet as used in the rest of the interior. The door pocket is made out of a relatively thick vinyl and attached by screws to the edge of the door. There is no structure to the pocket, I think. I will double check that on CSX 3288.

Thanks Jim. Finally stumbled onto a pic that shows the door pocket wrapped over the edge of the door and secured with screws as you said. Also appears to be trapped in place by the hinge plates.

I'll post the pic shortly.

Now to duplicate it on my doors.

Roger Bolick had e-mailed me this:

"Believe you'll find that the door vinyl will not go on properly
unless a strip of metal is used. The vinyl just tucks around this, then
the screws pass through vinyl-metal strip-vinyl-tube.

Vinyl or leather. I believe your photo shows this, as the material
appears to continue past the center of the tube and butts into the door
skin. Keeps the material "pulled" all around the door, otherwise it will
pucker at the screws after a few years. Likely the strip needs to be lightly
glued to the vinyl as you wrap it along the curve."

Thanks Roger. Great observation. I was reaching the same conclusion as I looked at the doors this morning. I was going to use a strip of plastic, but a strip of thin aluminum could be bent to shape and would hold the curve during the glueing process.

I'm making progress.

Just some minutia. The door pictured is a 289 door based on the ferrule support, and the material is leather. 427 street Cobras used vinyl for the pockets.

Peter P. at ERA had helped me on this as they have a system designed to be used on a glass door. One stop shop! About $125 for pair

Worked great on my old Contemporary 427 car.

I now have ally doors on the 289 w/o and leather pocket or carpet cover.

427 didn't use vinyl.....

They used Naughahyde.....

Took 2-3 Naughas to make one door pocket...

There is a thin flexible metal strip that is used to fix the lower edge of the door pocket material in a street car 427 , as someone alluded to above. I am sure Nick has them, probably cut to the correct width and length.
