HP289 Cobra Fuel Pump
Cobras with through CSX2125 fitted with mechanical pumps got a 1962 Ford design assembly.
By chassis number CSX2126 and later cars were fitted with the 1963˝ design Carter® 3623S model for all 260/289/HP289 1963 Fairlanes. The earliest dated pump in my database is before HP289s were introduced. The 3623S was a 1963 model year pump for V-8 Fairlanes. The 3623S was replaced in regular Fords with the 3732S for the 1964 model year. Later the 3734S replaced the 3732S. Cobras street and race CSX2126 and later for the 1963-65 model years used the 3623S pump. They could not be used as they were in Fairlanes. Chassis interference on a Cobra created the need for the valve bodies to be rotated forward. The stock Ford steel line would not work with the turned valve body so engine installers cut the steel line above the pump, installed an Eelco® brand 90° elbow fitting, a rubber jumper hose, and two Murray® brand hose clamps.
