I had an old 1970's Toyota Coaster small bus, and it had a heater like that bolted to the floor near the rear.

The very first Cobras did not have heater/demister units. At least one very early first batch car had some version described as being a 'Smiths' unit worked to fit after original sale of the car. The production heaters were made by Delaney-Gallay even though new car invoices indicated Smiths all through subsequent production. (There are several situations where what the used and what book keepers called them were very much different.) Original Delaney-Gallay parts and assemblies rarely get as far as a public sale with so many people wanting anything in any condition. About a decade ago a new old stock core for a Cobra was in an ebay® listing and the competition in that auction was truly amazing.
The heater housing was painted in a 'battleship gray' type color. Some units received a metal identification tag and some did not, both ways are Cobra correct. Years ago a company called Motorsports International sold a reproduction of the tag.

Dan, was the heater a self-contained, stand alone unit? IE blower, core etc.

I was picturing one like is in a Spitfire but I guess that's not correct.
The heater hoses on a MKII and how they go through the firewall make me think its a box rather than a cylindrical unit.

This collection of parts is the major components of an installation. It is sitting upside down on a tool box. The side facing the viewer faces the cockpit. It bolts directly to the firewall so original cars have either four small Aerotight® stop nuts and washers showing on the engine bay back wall or four small holes were a heater use to be mounted if the original fire wall is intact. The mounting flange is part of the outer housing and not anything separate.
If the car had a factory installed radio, the radio was at risk if coolant leaked inside the case for any reason. Leaking coolant would make its way down to the rounded protrusion on the motor case and drip on the top middle of the radio.

The only things in the engine bay is the fasteners sticking through the firewall and the jumper coolant hoses from core to engine bay. I think you have forgotten the demister ducts and diffusers located on the forward cowl immediately behind the windshield cockpit side.
These parts were removed from CSX2108 when it went drag racing nearly 50 years ago.
Just in case you are wondering yes the diffuser is painted completely everywhere. The research project undertaken to help return a car to as close to day one appearance as they could resulted in my conclusion that the diffusers were painted off the car, the cowl of the car if not the whole car got color coat, the diffusers were installed, and the final color coat was applied leaving the round head screw heads thinly painted in body color. The respray left powdery over spray on the top inside surfaces of the diffusers.

Yes, wind screen demisting is handy in rainy cool weather.........plus how to wash a Cobra's chassis.

Hi Dan, do you think you could take a few measurements for the demister locations? Since I don't have a windshield yet, distance from the cockpit and distance apart would be very helpful!

On my old black car, visually and tape measure wise (measuring an assembled car is not micrometer accurate for various reasons) the inboard holes appeared to be in line (as best I could tell because I was having to look through the curved glass) with the holes for the bracket in the windshield frame. The outboard holes are not in that same line as the deflectors angled to match the curve of the windshield. The tape measure estimate of the center lines of the two inboard holes was 12¼ inches parallel (the cowl is a curve, the tape measure was more or less straight horizontal) to the ground.

On an original car, everything is determined by where the windshield frame bolts on chassis substructure and the curve in the windshield frame. The bracket on the bottom center of the frame determines where inboard holes are for the deflectors, the outboard holes are just the same distance from the frame as the inboard ones going around the curve. To get a similar finished appearance you would have to mount a windshield and lay ancillaries out to match.

Ever find one? There has been one for cars with British Wiring (CSX2031 through CSX2200, and COX or COB prefix cars) listed on ebay(R) for some time now.
