Ned, if you look into the laws on copyright, then the owners permission needs to be obtained before posting photos, I have photos on Facebook with a copyright notice on them plus a watermark on the photos, plus posted small sizes, so they are not worth stealing, You have hit the nail on the head in what you have written above.

No I am not the paparazzi, and I don't take photos for financial gain to promote my commercial business. Also when I take photos, I have offered to send the owners of many cars photos for free of there cars.
Dave, here is another thought, if you ever take your cars to show etc , you could put a sign on the windscreen saying No Photos Allowed , now when you have got something sensible to say get back to me.

Harold.
I am not saying that you personally don't "Do the right thing".
All I am saying is that without the subject matter the picture would be of no interest to anyone, yet photographers get rather excited about "Their property".

I'm "dave" from the UK Cobraclub. If you have been (With your camera) to any of the UK kit car shows in the last 20 years you probably already have taken photos of my cars

No , I don't go to Kit car shows, have no interest in photographing replica Cobras, I only photograph original Cobras, although I do visit the 289 Register stand at Silverstone, as they are a nice bunch of guys.

Met Jack Sears and John Whitmore last year, they have some great stories to tell . Also some nice replica Hawk Cobras there that look as they should .

Plenty of photos in this group I run on Flickr : Flickr: The AC Cobras Original Cars Only Pool

You carry on Dave, I have no interest in photographing your car, its not a case of "my bat & ball and you cant play " although with childish comments like that, maybe you should put a bat and ball on your Christmas list.

Subject now closed from me, I have read enough of your childish comments.

My grandmother used to have some great stories too, but has nothing to do with this thread. Your personal opinion about which is your favourite replica and which owners club stand you prefer to frequent also has nothing to do with the "Copyright" talk in this thread.

What if someone was to take a snapshot of their computer screen while your photo was being displayed, would they have copyright over that seeing as they took the photo?

Yes, it is underhand to Leech photos, it would be nice if recognition was given to where it came from at least. But it doesn't always work out that way, it's not a perfect world. If it bothers you that much then don't post them on the internet, it's simple really.

We have both had photos leeched, I take it as a compliment and find it mildly amusing. In one case I sent the Leech a full res original of the picture.

I feel I have a valid point, and until I am persuaded otherwise or a moderator blocks me then my opinion stands. I am willing to be educated.

If one enters a car in a car show open to the public, I would think the owner has no expectation of privacy for images of his vehicle. That would include anyone who wanted to take photographs of it so long as camera's were permitted in the show by the organizers. The images photographed by a photographer would become his to do with as he pleases, including making them public domain by posting them on the internet. If you don't want your car photographed, don't enter it in a car show.
However, I'm not an attorney and my opinion may not be legally correct. Interesting point of discussion. I'll have to ask a friend who is an attorney and see what he says.

So I believe that quite a few pictures on your album were not taken by the person you're crediting with them, I don't know where that puts you. The other thing is Flicker and many others that claim you shouldn't copy their pictures, easily let you copy them in a different size. Then there's cheap and easy picture copying programs available, that is if you're too lazy to use Ctrl Alt Printscreen buttons. Bottom line is if the pictures are out there I think they're fair game. I think with Cobras the guys that don't mind them being photographed bring them out for us to see and share them. Some of them are really accommodating and want to talk Cobras and show them off. Others keep them under wraps, I'd love to see them all but hey they are theirs and that's up to them. There are quite a few in the registry without pictures or current owners showing. That has a lot to do with exactly what is going on here and now on the internet.
Anyway Ron and I will do our best to get a few more pictures on CSXinfo.

That is a fair comment, I was sent the photos a long time ago ,not stolen off a website, I have now removed them.

You should have exactly zero expectations of privacy for ANYTHING you post on the internet. Once it's out there, there's not a darned thing you can do if you posted it to a public site. Nor should there be. If you want to retain ownership, then set up a site to sell the images. I always post very low resolution photos if it's something I don't want to be stolen and/or misused.

Think you're immune to the loss of privacy and rights on the 'net? Try googling your name. It might surprise you what's out there about you, without your permission, and there's really not a lot you can do to stop it.

Been there, done it and have had my photos removed from websites that have used my photos without my permission.

What Mickmate said. If you put it up there, don't expect privacy. I have even had one of my pics sent back to me with someone else that I don't even know standing next to it! It is what it is.

So you're claiming you don't know the hot European model standing next to your car, this isn't your wife you're talking to Michael ;-)

I am about to enter battle with a Shelby group that is using one of my photos. They made a poster of it and removed my copyright and credit from the photo, and as time passes continue to crop it more and more. Now that they are charging and have excluded all previous members (me included) I'm pretty POd. I'm going to enforce my copyright on the photo - either they compensate me or they stop using it.
