Need Help With An Alternator
Hey all,
I picked this up over the weekend but I don't know what I've got. I was told it works fine but haven't tested it yet. The part number doesn't match the case though. Is this put together from parts? How can I tell what the amp output is?
Thoughts?
The part number is D0ZF10300-B.

A "bitsa" alternator.
The "D0ZF" front case is a 70 Mustang, the rear case is the 63/64 "plug in, rounded case" type used on the small block Cobras and 63/64 Thunderbirds and some full size Fords and Mercs.

That's pretty much what I thought. It doesn't fit the 289 mount but it's close. A little trimming and it will be fine. How can I tell what the amp output is? Is there a way to bench test that?

Take it to an alternator rebuild shop and let them tell you how many amps/volts it's puttng out if anything. You can usually even take it to your local auto parts shop for testing.

Yep, run it by any Auto Zone or O'Rielly's, they will test it for free.....

Likely that is a 38/40 amp unit. You can build it 60 amps using stock Ford pieces in that case, higher with aftermarket parts.
If it is a reman from a parts store it will likely have VERY cheap bearings in it. Worthwhile to have them changed to some quality bearings. We could buy both front and rear bearings for under $3.00 until recently. If you rev your engine the cheap-os will not last. Spend $20.00 and eliminate a possible failure.
