Goodyear Blue Dots - my final chapter.
Well, I spent a couple of hours at the auto paint store trying to find a paint color to match, or at least a color that I liked, for the Goodyear Blue Dots.
The paint store staff was great and we looked at a lot of base shades and mixed a number of combinations . But I wasn’t happy with the results and neither were they ( as we viewed the various Blue Dot color examples on my laptop).
So I went back home to rethink.
I’m kinda liking this color:
So I said to myself, time to think outside the box.
So I went on e-bay and typed in “blue rubber”.
Now get your minds out of the gutter. Yeah a lot of weird things came up. But most interesting was the selection of blue rubber rain boots. All kinds of them.
So I said to myself, time to think outside the boot.
So I bought a pair of these:
Which gave me the pieces of blue rubber shown above. No painting required.
So if anyone wants some Blue Dots, let me know. Say $10.00 for a set of 5 plus postage. Just enough for me to recover my costs.
Cheers
Greg

Ha Ha Jeff, if it was that easy. They don't make the correct blue dot tires and have not probably since the late sixties, early seventies...To my knowledge I think they were specifically made for the Cobra or very few other cars in the specific size that came on the Cobra's back in the day...I think there are some "left overs" hanging around but are not on this hemisphere price wise and the high end collectors have goobled them up. Don't blame them, if I had the money I would too.

Ever try
Kelsey Tires
They are very close to size?
I agree the original size is like hens teeth. These should still work charmingly.
Have power cushion on the front of mine. Larger diameter by half inch but they work. Many concourse cars use the new ones.

Thanks Jeff, pretty sure I've seen these as well as Coacker(sp?), etc. Honestly I have BFG's now and I like them albeit no where near original...which is why I've been trying to "fake" some blue dots so they look somewhat close...I just haven't been focused on it...

Only Kelsey has Goodyear.
Think they pay for that.
Great reputation.
Not cheap but nothing right is.

The title of the thread says it. "...final chapter".
Keep running on those BFG's and it will be!

Final chapter? Well, I'm still around.
Even great tires with poor judgement have caused some people problems.
Back to the blue dots. I cut the dots out of the "blue" rubber boots I bought on e-bay. Stuck them on with Gorrilla glue. Been on there for about 500 miles with no evidence of peeling or color fade. I like the look and color.
Next step is to sand the sidewalls to remove the modern day lettering.
Cheers and safe driving.

I took a look at the Kelsey Web site. It's easy to forget how narrow tires were back in the '60s, even though the F70 was a wide tire for its day.

my427cobra,
I think they look great! Nice touch for those Sunbursts.
Pardon my ignorance but what's going on with your valve stem?

Hi rodneym. The valve stems are made by Air-Jack. It's a little flat cap that screws off and you screw in a valve stem to inflate.
Cheers

Here are the Power Cushions which are base for the blue dots.
They ride nice and handle well.
No flat spots either.

Greg,
Interesting - what's the historical or performance basis for them. Not being critical - just curious as I've not seen anything like that.

Hi Dan. Thought the wheels looked cleaner without a valve stem. Didn't want to spoil the look of those beautiful wheels!
Cheers

Got it - thanks. You do have a really nice street roadster in case I haven't said that already. The sunburst wheels are icing on the cake.
