Back in 1970, we found the radio very handy to use while washing my brother's 289 Cobra, CSX 2306. And this was with an accessory speaker mounted on the transmission tunnel between the seat backs. Otherwise, it was worthless, as Dan has said. The Shelby supplied radio had a "COBRA" labeled tuner glass window to distinguish it.

There are a surprising number of little engineering companies hidden away in Birmingham (heart of British industry in the 19th and early 20th centuries) who have been there for decades, still doing what they always did. Those nuts are probably made by the grandson of the guy who first made them. How they survive in the present economy, I have no idea... don't think Nissan use many 1/4BSW brass wingnuts...

Hi chaps,
Have spoken to Brookes and Adams this morning who will come back to me with a price. They can also chrome plate for me, but this will take a little longer.
If you want to leave this with me I'll let you know when I hear from them, and hopefully I'll be able to post some pics before long. I've enquired about 1/4 and 3/16, which I think is the battery clamp size.

I realize that not every Cobra was finished the same or stayed the same very long but normal for CSX2201 and up cars (and maybe earlier) were Ford j-bolts and wing nuts for securing the batteries.

Most industrial supply or hardware supply companies should have something made to the same standard made of zinc. Lots of Cobra parts hunts start with a study of what McMaster-Carr Supply offers for example. Being of the same standard doesnt mean every tiny detail will be the same. I bought sample quantities from several companies and the match to a Cobra part was anywhere from looks generally the same to close enough only somebody knowledgeable will see anything amiss.
The only new old stock one exactly the same in every detail as I have found on Cobras came with a collection of new old stock 1950s Fords parts. Somebody was selling off a collection of 1950s Ford battery trays, holders, and hardware. I bought all the j-bolts and small hardware. In that collection was one perfect wing nut.

Spoke with Brookes and Adams again today. It turns out the current Managing Director's grandfather did have a contract with AC Cars - in the 1920s! Looks like these wingnuts had sat on the shelf for a while when they were used for the Cobra... makes sense, they would have ordered a lot of them initially and used on cars right through the line, Acecas, Aces, Greyhounds and the earlier models.
I'll keep you posted!
