Dry sump tank
Hi all
Does anyone have pictures of the type of dry sump tank fitted to CSX3020? I have seen the tank sold by aviaid but it doesn't seem right to me looking at the few pictures I have seen of the tank poking its head out of the front fender!
Dimensions would be a bonus as I would like to get one made here in the UK!
Many thanks
Stu

Yes, I do have a couple photo's of the dry sump tank but I'll have to find them first. I'll look when I can get more computer time.

Some of the dry sump cars had the passenger footbox cut into, others had a tank made to fit the space. There's a few of us with good pics of the car and the tank and the new owner of 3020 pops in here occasionally.

My gallery has a picture of my engine and it is fitted with a custom oil tank for the dry sump system with the fender fill. Apparently, the original dry sump tanks did not control aeration all that well. The person who designed mine and arranged for its construction is Bill Andrews of HRE Motorcars in NY 516-378-5461. I suggest that you contact him as he also has a lot of experience with the 3000 series cars. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the help guys.
Larry, any pictures you can lay your hands on would be a great help.
Nick, I notice you sell a dry sump tank but there are no pictures available to view, could you PM me a picture as it would probably be easier (& cheaper) to order one from yourself instead of having one made as a one off.
Thanks again

Well, I can't find the pics I have saved so far. I did have this one. It's the tank in 3020.
I'll keep looking for the other ones.

On original cars built with dry dumps systems, my guess is the tanks were custom made and fitted into place. The tank on 3002 looks like it was made for the space in front of the footbox. I'm not an expert on 427 comp cars though.

That would be AMAZING
I hope you don't mind me trying to replicate your cobra, I know I'm not the first and definitely won't be the last! I have gone as far as removing the rear bulkhead and transmition tunnel and replacing them with a much more original looking set up. I'm even now converting the rolling chassis I have to left hand drive because RHD just looks wrong!!
Many thanks again

This is what I was thinking about. It's on a Kirkham but it's very similar to ones done back in the day.

Hi Stu
I think that replicating this Cobra is great! I'm sure that your Cobra won't break down as much as mine does. Lol
The tank makes a pattern similar to a 7
Here are the dimensions:
Length- Front to back of the car- 11"
Height- 12" at the front of the car heading to the back for 6" then the tank is 17" tall for another 5" heading to the back of the car.
Depth- engine to fender- 12" at the front of the car, tapering down to 8 1/2" at the back of the car.
I hope this makes sense. If not, let me know and I can try to clarify for you.
I will post more pictures in my album.
I can also send you Hi-Rez photos if you send me an email address

Thats a great help, just what I needed. I can now get a tank made up by a company I have used a few times before here in the UK.
As for the reliability of my Cobra I am building my own 428FE so we will have to wait and see
I will PM you my email address, a couple of Hi-Rez pictures would be great, if nothing else I can print them out and hang them in the garage for inspiration!!
Thanks again

The key is the guts for de-aeration.
Here's a few dimensions from one.
Pats drive belt cover he mentioned with correct font we're thinking of casting a few.

That picture of the Dry Sump Tank is exactly what my tank looks like and it looks like the same measurements
Does anyone make that tank now?

Hey George I know Dave Dralle has made a few, not sure if they are to those dimensions. Hard to measure in the car with rounded edges huh? ;-)
I know a guy that makes tanks..........

Stu is your car all together with motor, side pipes and everything it needs? If it is make a cardboard or wood mock up of what you can fit in there.
Spencer at Fantasy takes great pics, scroll through 3004 pics here http://www.fantasyjunction.com/cars/....%208-Cylinder

The cars not fully together yet, I still have to make the headers so can work around a tank. I'll have a measure up this weekend and see what will fit.
Cheers
