Nick - You better plan on making two tanks as I also have a fondness for 3020 and wouldn't mind if my Hi-Tech looked just like it upon completion

Here's some photo's from KMP259 that may help out....




Notice that the cover is riveted to the inner panel ...and the inner panel is Nut-Sert to the chassis.




This is how we mounted the tank....notice the insulation on top of the footbox and where the tank mounts to the foot box.

Here's the tank mounted in position.....

But I will for warn you that you have to check the tank builders work.... we fought leaks and had to remove many times until we got all of the leaks fixed.

BTW Dave Dralle built our tank ..... leaks in the welds.... and leaks where the fuel cell plate mounts to the tank.... but we finally got it sealed and works good now.

I think that my car has been leaking for about 49 years now! Lol

Here's the way we ended up getting the motor to run and not expel any oil out any of the vent lines.

Here's the Dry Sump Tank Catch Can and Breather..... we made it out of another Catch Can we had....it's just banded to the Dry Sump Tank with rubber protection.




The Things you can see here is the Breather, Vent for the Dry Sump Tank.... and also the heat shield between the headers and the Dry Sump Tank.... and easy way to see if there's any oil in the Breather Tank.

One of the issues that KMP259 had was the Chassie bar that comes from the hoop under the dash to the top of the shock housing (square tube) was made with a larger tube for Tom K. It's a 1" square tube instead of 3/4" tube.

Also that is a 1 1/2" Breather on the tank.



Here you can see the Vent line coming from the Tank.

Here the Venting is tucked in nicely and not noticable

Here is the advantage to having a 3 or 4 stage Scavenge Section on your Dry Sump Pump.

Notice the -12 line next to the Vent Cap on the Intake manifold. it is extracting oil out of the Valley on the motor.

Here's another shot from the other side of the motor....

So with the Dry Sump Tank, and the Valve Covers Vented to the atmosphere and the Scavenge Line in the Valley of the Motor .... we were able to run the motor at 7800 RPM's hard all day long and not get oil in any of our Catch Can's .... Before ......every time we came off the track we had to dump our Catch Can's .... I know it's opposite of the thinking of today.... of pulling a vacuum on a motor.... but this has worked out well for us and we run a motor harder then anyone on this board.... One lap around a race track at speed is a challenge for any motor to to stay together.... and as long as it is built right and all of the systems function properly .... then it will perform as it should.

Hope this helps out.... it took us a while to figure it all out ... but that's the fun of it.... one big Challenge.

I sympathize with you .... we pulled the Dry Sump Tank out many times ...which means pull the exhaust sys every time to get to it.... and inner fender panel .... we Nut-Serted our inner panels to the car.... so we could remove them with a screw instead of rivets.

What we eventually found out, was that some of the welds had pin holes in them and oil just leaked out ...especially when it got hot.... and we were running 245*degrees on the oil going into the tank....220*degrees on oil going into the motor .... on a 90*degree day....

That was when we took it apart and rewelded all of the fittings and it turned out to be the fittings on the fuel cell plate where the pickup is.... very frustrating chase. BTW the gaskets for the tank are at Fuel Safe .... but we used a GM Silver RTV to seal that gasket and the bolts to seal everything up and it was a happy day when that happened.....

I thought I recognized my car- where did you get those pictures? The car now belongs to 4Pipes BTW, and the tank was built by Dave Dralle and didn't leak a drop for me. Perhaps because I mounted it in a rubber cradle.

Thanks, it was a fun build.

The bottom picture shows how far back into the footwell I moved the tank in order for the primary pipes to clear the tank.

That is an interesting air cleaner. Is that custom fabricated. Can you tell me/us about it. I am building a car that will have a 482 and I am looking for something that's will fit and flow enough air.

It is a fabricated air cleaner .... at the time we couldn't get a Dominator air cleaner to fit and most of them are 14" air cleaners.....

So we went to a 16"x3" filter and fabricated the air cleaner so it fits under the hood.... and remember we were using a big reverse hood scoop on the hood.

Default dry sump old vs new

I am currently running an original dry sump system on my 427. for over 24 years. Yes from the sixties,absolutely trouble free, no venting problems etc, One item I am looking for is the pulley cover guard since not many where made they are a hard find,but not impossible. Pictures to come later,off and on.
