Correct temp range for Smiths water temp gauge?
What is the correct range for a Smiths water temp gauge for 289 fitment?
The gauge supplied by Nisonger has a temperature range of 40degC to 140degC
I have seen these gauges fitted to CSX2xxx cars, but I have also seen gauges with a range of 30degC to 100degC as well.
Which is correct?

There is no correct temp, the smiths gauges are crap and never read accurate, they do at the beginning but they fade quick, I have fixed the fuel gauge more times than I can count...I should not say thy never work, I just don't trust them...Prob why Kirkham makes there own...

Going by the number of 40-140 gauges I've seen in CSX2xxx cars, the 30-100 is not readily available.

Correct Smiths temp gauge is 30/100 C # 1501/20 ,really difficult to find !!!!!!

I've been having correct original gauges made and yes I agree with Bernie early Smiths equipped 260/289 should be 30-100 C.

Hi Glen, just did some fuel gauges and ammeters all new and correct on original cores. Faces are screen printed correct, he does a lovely job for us. Cores can be hard to find so I grab them when I can which explains limited availability and us building them to order for original cars. Not having big stock on them or enough hours in the day is why they're not on the site.

I did wonder if it could be a COX car, but not because of the Ford choke. Did all COX (and COB?) cars have the Ford choke?

Hi Nick,
When you say "all new" and "original cores", what is new? Are the bourdon tubes and springs and levers new in an original case, or what's the split?
Can you quote prices for water temp (30degC - 100degC) and fuel and ammeter?

I'll check on core availability to rebuild as new in original format. I'm actually looking for a clip that holds the instrument lamp for the ammeters. We need to repop them.

Interesting. I thought the ammeter got 'ambient light' from the exposed bulb-in-a-clip that illuminates the fuel gauge. Where would a clip go on the ammeter? It's only a push fit.

I don't know if all the COX cars had their Ford choke mounted there or not. Or for that matter, if they all had manual chokes. My guess is yes but it's only a guess. I know more about the CSX leaf spring cars than the COX/COB cars.

Ammeter has slits in the side that I believe had a bulb against them held by a clip around the body.
