Default Racing helmets used by the team drivers

A little different subject for the originality forum:

What racing helmet was typically used by the Cobra team drivers in the 60's?
Looks like a Bell open faced shorty, maybe a Bell Star or RT?

Hard to see in many of the old pics. Did they have decals on the helmets? Cobra , Goodyear or any other?

Allan Grant had a Cobra decal on the bill of his helmet.

Thought about doing a display helmet for the trunk of my car for car shows.

Any info would be helpful.

Cheers
Greg

Bell or Buco were the brain buckets of the day. The Bell Star came much later (68 for Gurney, the first to use one) The Bell was the standard issue open face fiberglass helmet....pretty generic now.

I couldn't find any shots - at a quick search - of helmets with any decals.

You're right MarkIV. Seems the Bell helmets may have been 500TX or Magnum.

Great pics Glen. I had forgotten about Bondurant's helmet paint scheme.

No decals though.

Keep the info coming.

Cheers
Greg

Good one xb-60. Can't remember though: was Bell's first name Helmet?

What car was Steve McQueen in? Great pic.

Cheers

You mean Helmut Bell? A German cousin I think.
The car is a Brabham BT30 F2 of around 1969-1970 vintage.

Cheers,
Glen
