Default Colour of fender louvres on 289

Any ideas as to how many original 289 Cobras had silver or grey louvres in their front fenders?

Here's a picture I've borrowed from 66gtk's current thread, posted by peterpjb (hope you guys don't mind)

Any opinions on originality and/or appearance?

Cheers,
Glen

Original equipment was body color. Owners have customized cars by removing the vanes, to painting them various colors besides body color, and even removed all paint and polished them for decades.

When introduced mid CSX21xx range the vanes were welded in. Late in the CSX21xx range AC Cars changed to a removable assemblies design attached with little chrome plated brass machine screws, lock washers, and bare steel plain hex nuts. There was no choice but to paint the integrally welded in vanes as the body was painted. The very few nearly unmolested cars left indicate that even the removable assemblies were painted as the bodies were painted; with just over spray on the engine bay side.

I prefer body color...more subtle and more period/factory correct. I believe the reason why most leave them bare is that they can be a real PITA to paint properly. A properly set-up touch-up spray gun is the key.

Leaving them aluminum is a nice touch. Painted mine body color to fall in line with most original cars I had seen.

Glen,

Body color or bare aluminum or silver/grey … all good choices. Body color is the traditional way to go and that is what I used for my 289. I also had ERA supply a second set of louvers that are bare aluminum, in case I changed my mind. So far the painted ones are still in and likely to stay that way … it is however, nice to have a choice.

In my opinion, given the beautiful light blue of your FIA, I would lean towards body color first choice, then bare aluminum as second choice and silver/grey third choice. That said, the only vote that really matters is yours …

Thank you gentlemen for the comments. Always good when the heavy hitters chime in.
Time is on my side so I'll pause for thought

Edit: speaking of heavy hitters, Ned's Cobra has silver louvres....

Cheers,
Glen
