Default Fresh air intakes to side of grill opening?

Did the fresh air intakes on each side of the main grill opening by the quick jack ears ever have mesh or screen behind them on a 427 car?

Thanks!

So they did have screens on the intakes? I have seen the majority with none, some with aluminum grate, and others with a screen like material on the outlet of the duct to make an inline screen.

Which is correct?

They have expanded mesh grills.

Are there any pictures out there of what is correct in terms of material and color?

Didn't CSX30xx chassis (originally intended to all be race cars, left overs became SCs) just have front brake cooling ducts with no screens. 427 Cobra street cars used the intakes for fresh ducting to the foot boxes and they had screens in the openings.
