John do you know if any other ford used that dimmer? The reason I ask is, I was lead to believe it was the push pull type. Then that begs the question why the toggle.? When I thought about that and that this car was a hurried replacement for 2259 which ran with the " Bull bar" and road lights when crashed, the toggle was actually fitted for those lights which may be fitted overseas .
This is purely speculation and did check With Mr Remington or Bondurant or Sir Whitmore.

It is just a Lucas rheostat that was installed on the early street Cobras and used to dim the gauge lights. SAI team mechanics used Ford knobs so that they would be easy to see and operate with a gloved hand.

I am not sure how many here have driven a Cobra at night but the reflection of the gauge lights on the inside of the windshield is pretty bad at times.

Looks like you guys have the switch work out!
I wanted to add this photo Ross sent me. I love unique details and this knee/leg pad on CSX2345 is awesome!

From what I have been able to determine all of the FIA roadsters were equipped with the knee pad. There are also in period photos of the earlier comp roadsters using variations of some form of knee pad on the door hinges.
