Wow lots of cool details.
You have to love the 58 DSF Weber carbs.
Heim joint suspension
Rear upright extension piece.
boxed rear shock mount
boxed rear A-arm mount
big fuel tank
Lots of Daytona Coupe style mods
And lots of swiss cheese...

As a side note, csx2196 tested with 58 mm Webers at Riverside, but raced with a single four at Nassau.

Very cool! I'd like to know more about the rear hub carrier extension on the leaf spring!

What’s the purpose of the upright extension? I’ve never even heard of that. Do you suppose that is original to the car?
The rear arms are totally unique, mounting the bolts in double sheer with the forward heim on the front side of the mount. I assume these arms are flip-top only?
Always wanted to see this chassis

I was fortunate to see the “Turd” at Legendary Motor Car’s shop last summer. A very interesting Cobra for sure. Peter’s restoration skills are second to none.
Thanks for sharing those pics Brian.

Could someone comment on the hubs if they know anything about them? The fronts appear to be pin drive. The rear are for spline drive but have drive pins. I have been told many have been converted. But i think when they did that they used to have 5 bolts to hold the rotors on. So they were then drill to the 6 pin pattern. Because of this there should be extra holes that I am not seeing.

Upright extensions are typically used to change the camber curve. However, on CSX2196 I believe it was to raise the ride height to counteract the fuel tank that is both larger and further back.
Yes, it is original to the car. The extension can just be made out in a very famous picture.

One of the members here was friends with the owner of the Turd - aka Fliptop - and actually got to drive it at the track. There's been extensive posts about it over the years that should be easy to find with a forum search. Nice to see it being restored.

It has a wider track because the body is wider too. You can see it on old pics, where the straps were weldet in and where the rear section was spreaded. I guess 3" complete from rear to cockpit each side and the lower part an additional 2 or 2.5" to get the lower side wider. The front is wider too. Someone on the forum measured years ago the center to center headlight distance. Regular distance is approx. 44.5" and the Turd was stated 48" as far as I can remember.

I am thinking the extension may be for ride height to prevent bottoming out due to weight at the rear.
