Default Original half shaft for leaf spring car.

I have some Spicer parts numbers . The part numbers I have are for 1350 series u joints. I believe that original 289 car used this series u joint. Can anyone verify these part numbers. Length wise they seem to be a little short. I can not mock it up very accurately just yet. I am getting tired of buying the wrong parts.

Spicer numbers

3-2-119 side flange yokes
3-82-161 male slide yoke.......... this seams a little short on the length of the shaft.
3-3-1561kx female slide yoke
5-1350x u joint

Thanks guys if you can help me out. Mark

I just bought half shafts as well and had to piece everything together from different sites. Some of the prices varied widely. Drive train America has a great selection and a great web site. Your Spicer series looks like 1350. What I bought was 1410 series. I found the part number in an old thread on this site. They were provided by Dave Kirkham I think, based on original shafts. I am not saying what you have won't work, just the u joints will need to match that series. Here is what I bought, noting that one of the parts did seem available any more and the shaft that replaced it was a little shorter. My problem is I have a salisbury 4HU from a XJ V12 and have now ended up with two male flange pilots on the inboard side flange yokes. If I can't resolve the problem with different flange yokes I will just machine the Spicer part since it was only about $30. not much to lose if I make a mistake.

Flange yoke 3-2-159
Ujoints 5-160X
Yoke Shaft 3-82-268x or 3-82-58x (later version still out there)
Slip yoke 3-3-118kx

Hope this helps.

Yes Brad those are the part numbers if your going to use the 1410 series u joints. Later 427 cars use these. I am building a 289 based car. They used 1350 series half shafts. To use the bigger series half shafts in a 289 car you have to hog the rear spring tower side plates out. There is no room for the bigger stuff to go thru the side plates. I want mine to be like they were originally.

Your problem on the jag rear comes from the fact that you are not using the inboard brakes that they came with. You need to make a ring with the right bolt pattern and center bore size . Your half shafts will then mount like they should.

By the way I have all the spicer parts you list minus the male slide yoke. I will not have a use for these. I would give someone a good deal on these!

We have the spacers for the Jag Salisbury to account for the disc thickness.
