Default Spare tire mounting

Can someone here tell me how the spare tire was fastened in the trunk? Pics?
Thanks,
John

Pretty sure S/Cs never came with a spare .

On the street cars, they had a different trunk floor tray, that was more recessed. The full size spare wheel fit snugly into the tray. I have seen some cars with hold down straps, but I am not sure that was original. Ron wuold probably know better.

Here's a pic of a street car trunk with spare (courtesy of csxinfo.net)..

If you look at the photo that Power Surge provided from csxinfo.net, then imagine that there is no carpet on the floor, and everything in the trunk is sprayed with a can of Krylon gloss black paint; you will have a very good representation of an original street car setup. I don't believe that any of the cars had provisions for holddowns.

I don't believe there were any tie-points for hold-down straps.

The white car, pictured above (CSX3301) really can't be used as a benchmark for 'originality'. ( )

In the street trunk, it looks like the spare just sat cradled in the well.

Thank you all very much. I did find the street car on csx.net but didn't find the SC version.
Very helpful.

427 street cars did not have any hold down for the tire that I know of. Tire fits snugly in the tray. 289's did have a hold down rod and unusual threaded knob. Jim Maxwell

Jim - Oddly enough, 6111 (the AC 289) uses the standard 427 Cobra-type trunk in black fiberglass, but has the threaded hold-down with the same oddball nut as the 289 Cobra street cars.

Talk about skinny rubber! How in the heck did those things stay on the road.

...or did they?

Not always. A lawyer friend and I were talking and he said (remember this is a lawyer) that there is a specific legal term which I don't remember that is used when the original purchaser of a vehicle dosn't live long enough to make the first payment and the 427 Cobra has the record.
